Lieutenant General Devendra Pratap Pandey (born 17 June 1964) AVSM, VSM is a Three-star rank general of the Indian Army and is the General-Officer-Commanding of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps. He took over from Lieutenant General B S Raju after the latter completed his term as the Corps Commander. Prior to his appointment[2] as the Chinar Corps Commander, the general served as the First Director General of Territorial Army (DG TA)[3] of the Indian Army and General Officer Commanding(GOC) Kilo Force[4]

Early Life and Education

Devendra Pratap Pandey hails from Gorakhpur and is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Pune and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He also holds a master's degree in Defence Studies from University of Madras, Chennai and an M.Phil. in Defence and Management Studies from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. Pandey has attended the Defence Services Staff College,Wellington[5] and the National Defence University, Washington, D.C.

Career

Pandey was commissioned into 9th battalion The Sikh Light Infantry[6] in 14 Dec 1985. He has commanded the 9th battalion The Sikh Light Infantry in Jammu and Kashmir as well as the Sector RR[7]. He has served in Counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir[8]. He also served as a MilitaryObserver in Combodia.

His staff assignments include tenures as a Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade and as a Director at Infantry Directorate and Foreign Division Directorate in Army Headquarters, New Delhi.

In addition, he served as an Assistant Adjutant[9] and Instructor at the National Defence Academy, Pune as Instructor.

The General officer has an extensive service experience along western borders, deserts, Rajasthan, Punjab and commanded the Battalion in north Siachen glacier[10] and Eastern Ladakh.

Honours and decorations

During his career, he has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (2020)[12], Vishist Seva Medal (2011), and the COAS and GOC - in - C commendation card for his service.
