"Flash" (stylized as "FLASH") is a single by Perfume, released in iTunes on March 16 2016. It is the fifth single from their fifth studio album COSMIC EXPLORER. [1] The single reached first place in the real-time ranking of iTunes with 200,000 downloads.

[2]The single is used as the theme song for the live action adapted film Chihayafuru.

Background

[3]In the Cosmic Explorer album release announcement, there was two limited edition with the first one Blu-ray, and the second with DVD. The music video for the single was included in both of the Blu-ray and DVD, which then had a video clip of it uploaded on 31 December 2015.

It is theoretically believed that the digital release was going to be a surprise release, which was leaked few days prior on Twitter.

Music Video

The song also has a music video for it on YouTube with some CGI to go with the dance. It is their most watched video on YouTube with more than 60 million views. The music video is directed by Yusuke Tanaka based on the credits in the Cosmic Explorer album.

Synopsis

The video starts with a text of the song's name. Eventually, it switches to the girls that are in a room. The video randomly switches scenes from one member to all members dancing throughout the video. The drop before the second verse shows the girls walking to each other, walking in circles. When entering the second verse, the girls put their hands out one by one, holding each other before the pre-chorus, and back to circling again. The first hall of the bridge shows them dancing in slow motion. Going into the final chorus, the scenes with them dancing with the [4]LED light sabers which are believed to be operated by their technology team Rhitzomatiks were added to resembles the lyrics. The video ends with the girls doing the signature pose.
