Revision as of 12:06, 18 April 2021

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Semi-protection: Constant vandalism by User:GhaznaviSix. 76.67.98.117 (talk) 03:36, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. Nothing since the final warning; relist if that changes. El_C 10:40, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary protection: Persistent IP vandalism Jamesluiz102 (talk) 04:28, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Many revdels. El_C 10:48, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent edit warring. @El C: HurricaneEdgar 05:04, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    @HurricaneEdgar: vandals is actually multiple IPs. 36.77.95.2 (talk) 05:42, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@36.77.95.2: One of the IP's (er, me) is actually not a vandal, BTW so don't accidentally block me WP:BABY, as I actually came across the blanking of this page, and tried to revert it, but got too close to 3RR. Anyway, I support it being semi-protected (even though I wont be able to edit it) since it will let this persistent disruptor forget about it.106.69.53.60 (talk) 10:53, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Fully protected for a period of one week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. El_C 10:57, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Apparently somebody there just found out there's a country called "Niger" and thinks it's funny to vandalize this page to promote that fact. - Sumanuil (talk) 05:39, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. El_C 10:59, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Persistent vandalism – If you look at the history of the article you will see that every time he referees a football match he is subject to abuse from the losing sides. I am constantly reverting vandalism and having to warn users. Racingmanager (talk) 08:25, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Racingmanager: This article has already semi-protected yesterday by El C due to violation of BLP policy by IP users. There was very high vandalism by multiple IPs before it was protected, primarily those with IPV6 range. 36.77.95.2 (talk) 09:32, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Declined.  Already done. Not a candidate for an WP:ECP upgrade at this time. El_C 10:38, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Content Dispute/Edit Warring. This article is controversial and is recently subject to heavy edit warring recently. -- DaxServer (talk) 09:01, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected indefinitely. Logged AE action. Over 25 protections! El_C 11:07, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes protection: Repeated disruptive edits from an IP user whose IP changes and who doesn't respond to talk page. Page isn't edited that often otherwise. Erinius (talk) 10:08, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 10 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.
    Pending-changes protected indefinitely. El_C 11:11, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. FMSky (talk) 10:40, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. El_C 11:14, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Tommi1986 let's talk! 11:34, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Persistent vandalism by User:Kyopa, who was banned and keeps edit warring using other names. Same with List of Greek Cup finals and List of unbeaten football club seasons articles. Abudabanas (talk) 11:41, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Indefinite pending changes protection: Is not even a real thing it is just a fictious project as other pages such as celebrities WolfeReAds (talk) 04:32, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@WolfeReAds:I highly doubt this will be done as you have provided no legitimate reason to lower the protection. Dronebogus (talk) 04:44, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@WolfeReAds: Did you read the article? Even the preview popups I use make it clear the article is about works of fiction. This is like arguing a page about a celebrity should be unprotected because the article states the guy was only popular in Oak Grove, Kentucky. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 07:48, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Previously page did not meet musical notability criteria but after winning a grammy with Tennesse State Marching Band title meets said criteria 2600:1700:F991:9E50:F923:CBAA:724D:8AFE (talk) 05:03, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I believe Robert McClenon's response to you at Del Rev (11 Jan) was along the lines of "create a notable draft first, then we'll deal with unprotection". Zinnober9 (talk) 05:48, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary pending changes protection: Reduce the protection to pending changes, as all vandals that triggered the temporary semi-protection are all ip users. It would be greatly appreciated if the semi-protection is reduced to pending changes for the remainder of the duration. 🗽Freedoxm🗽(talkcontribs) 18:57, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{pagelinks}} template and then the reason.
