Farokh Tarapore (born 3 August 1960) is a distinguished Naval Officer and a Double World Champion in the field of yachting.

He has represented India at three Olympics - the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics[1] and many World and Asian Sailing Championships.


He has won five world championship medals, which include two gold and three bronze medals for India, five Asian Games medals (one gold, two silver and two bronze medals) and eight Asian Championship medals (three gold, three silver and two bronze medals) - A feat achieved by none in Asia.

He has also won more than thirty National titles. He is honoured with the prestigious Chhatrapati Shivaji award and the Arjuna Award.

An alumnus of the prestigious NDA Khadakwasla, Lt. Cdr. Farokh Tarapore VSM served in the Indian Navy while pursuing an active career in yachting at the highest level.


He is a fitness enthusiast to the point of perfection and hence was able to represent India for four decades at the International level. He is a life coach to hundreds  of people. He often tells people who look at boats from the shore to change their perspective and look at the shore from a boat. He applies the same principle and along with his wife Anahita help scores of people to make a difference to their lives by being healthy and fit.

His philosophy: " You cannot change the wind but you can always adjust your sails"

Business Career

Farokh has been instrumental in inspiring corporate teams in areas of enhanced performance, building strong work ethics & resilience. Some of the organizations that have benefitted from his application of his winning ideas are Godrej & Boyce, Infosys Ltd and Naval officers associations.

He also mentors business leaders to build sustainable enterprises in line with current trends and focus areas.

Fitness Coach

Two of the key drivers that enabled a span of 50 years in competitive sailing were a focus on fitness and health. Farokh leverages that experience and knowledge to mentor many to lead a healthier life style through a focus on holistic health. Revered as a Go To resource, Farokh rarely likes being called an expert.

In his own words - "The way you do anything is the way you do everything and I have just tried to do everything the way it should be done - correctly!"
