Just wondering why there are no mentions about the fact that soil using GR techniques seems to be degrading over time. Check out http://livingheritage.org/green-revolution.htm and ://www.foodfirst.org/media/opeds/2000/4-greenrev.html. Are they wrong?

Carrying capacity

I reverted an edit by joan-of-arc:

The Green Revolution was one factor stimulating world overpopulation, since the carrying capacity of the world was at least temporarily raised; this elevation of carrying capacity may be ephemeral since increased food supply was achieved in some world regions by unsustainable farming pracises such as overdrafting of aquifers in northern China[1].

-There was no "Green Revolution" in China. There was another kind of agricultural development program run by the Chinese state but independent of the international development programs.

-"Carrying capacity" and water table issues are already discussed in this article

-Raising agricultural productivity does not necessarily result in "overpopulation." Look at the United States, Canada or Western European nations for example: agricultural productivity has increased dramatically since WWII while population growth has slowed. We can infer that a multitude of factors effect population size.

Revert

I recently reverted an edit because it contained erroneous information. The Office of Special Studies began in 1943, not 1945. The "needs analysis" conducted by the Rockefeller Foundation ocurred in 1942 and the establishment of the OSS took place imediately following. Borlaug joined OSS in 1945, but it had already existed for two years without him.

Also, the major water issue reported is lowering of water tables, not raising of water tables.

Please do your research when you edit this article and cite your changes. Everything on here right now has been researched.
