The 2021 Philippines Football League, also known as The Philippines Football League brought to you by Qatar Airways, due to the league's title sponsorship of Qatar Airways, will be the fifth season of the Philippines Football League (PFL), the professional football league of the Philippines.

It is yet to be determined if the 2021 season will be still held under a bubble format, like in the previous season due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation.[1] The league's cup tournament, the Copa Paulino Alcantara will not be held for a second time after it was cancelled the previous season.[2] Although there were plans to hold the cup tournament in April prior to the start of the league.[3]

The 2021 season is planned to commence as early as June[3] with two or three potential expansion clubs.[1] Two of these clubs are Loyola (which was among the founding clubs of the PFL as Meralco Manila) and Laos.[4] As of March 2021, Loyola and Laos are currently completing their licensing requirements. Also in March of 2021, it was announced that two more new clubs, a team going by the name of Rapids F.C. and Cebu United , from Cagayan de Oro and Cebu City respectively, were already in the process of procuring its licensing documents. This would make a 10-team league, the most in the league's history.[5] The league will kick off on July 17, 2021[2] to give room for teams that will participate in both the 2021 AFC Cup and 2021 AFC Champions League. In the same episode where he revealed the new teams vying to compete in the 2021 season, Philippine Football Federation president Mariano Araneta also disclosed the LGUs being represented, citing Quezon City and Valenzuela City as the joint-LGUs for Laos while Loyola is still searching for a suitable LGU to represent.

Foreign players

A maximum of five foreigners are allowed per club, with four players of any nationality and a fifth coming from an AFC member nation. This is a change from the previous four seasons which followed the Asian Football Confederation's (AFC) '3+1 rule. This resulted from an earlier press conference dubbed "We Are PFL 2021", where the managers of the clubs expressed a desire to increase the foreign quota from four to five.[citation needed]
