Heavy Construction Systems Specialists, Inc. (HCSS) is a USA based construction software development company founded in 1986, with its headquarters just outside of Houston in Sugar Land, TX.
History
In 1981, HCSS Founder and CEO, Mike Rydin, wrote the estimating software for a construction company where he was working at the time. In 1985, Mike rewrote the estimating system he developed, but for PC instead of the HP3000 microcomputer.[1] This new estimating system for PC came to be known as HeavyBid and the company was founded shortly after in 1986.[2]
Headquarters
HCSS headquarters is a three-building campus that sits on 12-acres in Sugar Land, TX just outside of Houston. Funded by a $12 million capital investment, the third building was completed in the summer of 2020.[3]
Software
The HeavyBid software gives contractors the ability to quickly prepare a detailed cost estimate and then convert it into a bid.[4] HCSS HeavyBid estimating and bidding software is used by estimators for earthwork, underground, highway, pipeline, and other heavy construction disciplines. The software helps automate repetitive tasks based on tracking data from multiple sources such as past estimates, standardized libraries, historical costs, performance data, and integrated RSMeans.[5]

HCSS raises money in time of need[6] and has gifted millions to local colleges to endow scholarships and support new infrastructure projects.[7]
