=== Formation ===
Lovejoy was formed in late 2020/early 2021 in [[Brighton]], England. Wilbur and Joe began discussing a band and writing songs with James Marriott in early 2020, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wilbur later invited James to write lyrics for Lovejoy, but James turned down the offer to focus on his E-Boys podcast. In August 2020, Wilbur, Joe, Ash, and Mark formed the band and began writing songs. By February 2021, the band had written six songs and were ready to record, but faced technical issues. Wilbur introduced the band to his existing fanbase and detailed the band’s recording troubles in a stream on February 4.

Lovejoy was first teased by Gold on a [[Twitch (service)|Twitch]] stream in April 2021, where he showed a very early preview of their song "One Day". On 20 May 2021, they debuted on Billboard's Emerging Artists chart at number 10.[2]
