Shinde (Template:Lang-mr) is a clan of 96 kuli maratha. Variations include patil[1] or sarkar/sardeshmukh[1], Scindia,[1] Sindhia, Sindia.[2] Sindhe and Shinday last name may be also found in communities like lohar, dhangar, dhor, mang dalits[3][4] who made weapons for the clan under Mahadaji Shinde regime of Northern India.[5]

The Scindia dynasty was founded by Ranoji Scindia, who was the son of Jankojirao Scindia, the Patil of Kanherkhed, a village in Satara District, Maharashtra.[6] He rose to prominence while serving Bajirao I Peshwa.[7][8][9][2]
