"OK, this is a very personal thing to say on the radio, but my wife and I separated a few years ago. And so for years now, Mary has usually been the person who I talked to last before I'd go to sleep. " |

Hes Jewish. (unsigned comment) |

I can't find any supporting evidence of this, but obviously it's true since it's from the horses mouth. Since there is no exact date and we don't know if "separation" mean "divorce" how can we handle the "spouse" section? As recently as September 2015 Glass and Alan were looking to adopt a child according to this: http://hubmesh.com/ira-glass-and-wife-anaheed-married-since-2005-might-soon-be-adopting-a-baby.html which makes the "a few years" part odd. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:646:4100:5D25:AD8C:339D:6A13:915F (talk) 18:57, 20 March 2017 (UTC) |

== Was his mother Chinese? ; was she Jewish? == |
The article says his father and mother were both Jewish. But, no reference is provided to this effect. The only two references associated with that sentence, are to his mother's obituary. The cited obituary is silent about whether she was Jewish, or Chinese, or whatever. |
During the segment of "This American Life" aired on January 12, 2013, Glass stated flatly that he was half Asian, saying that his mother was Chinese. (This was part of his rebuttal of an accusation that he was prejudiced against Asians.) |
I am not arguing that the article should be edited to say that his mother was Chinese. I am requesting that someone find a source that meets Wikipedia standards, to the effect that Glass's mother was Jewish; otherwise, it seems to me that her putative religious affiliation should be removed from the article. |
Yes, I understand that she (or for that matter, her ancestors) might have converted to Judaism. Whatever the case, no reference to her religion should be included in the article without a suitable source being cited. ~Publius4 |

Ira Glass is NOT Chinese whatsoever. Here's the transcript of the show you are referring to: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/484/transcript The person doing the segment you mentioned was Ben Calhoun not Ira Glass. Ben Calhoun actually IS Chinese according to his Wikipedia page. He actually appears to be somewhat Asian looking too unlike Ira Glass. Ira Glass' mother is the now deceased prominent psychologist Shirley Glass who was of Jewish ethnicity. I don't think Ira Glass would make such a blatant lie to defend himself against accusations of racism when his mother was such a prominent and respected person and judging from the readily available photos she doesn't not appear to pass whatsoever for an Asian person, let alone a woman who is entirely of Chinese descent as you had claimed. To be fair, Ben Calhoun's voice sounds a bit like Ira Glass' voice but you should avoid making claims such as these without being sure, even on a talk page because others may, and probably have read what you've written while knowing of Ira Glass' prominent psychologist mother or Googling her and they will assume that Glass was lying in order to defend himself against accusations of racism, that is unless they bothered to look through the transcript/audio podcast to check your assertions for themselves. I doubt you will read this, but try to do a bit of research before you make bold assertions regarding others like you have. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.230.224.123 (talk) 02:06, 27 April 2015 (UTC) |
