Michael E. Heisley is an American businessman who is the majority owner of the Memphis Grizzlies. Heisley regularly appears on the Forbes 400 Richest Americans list. On Monday October 2, 2006, Michael Heisley announced that he has reached an agreement to sell his seventy percent interest of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies and the operator of FedExForum, to Grizzly Acquisition Holdings, LLC, an investment group headed by former NBA player Brian Davis.

Heisley is also involved in multiple business ventures, such as:

These companies own about forty businesses worldwide.

Heisley was born in Washington, D.C., grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, and currently resides in St. Charles, Illinois. He has an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University. Heisley is the director of The Heisley Family Foundation.

Heisley ran the Vancouver Grizzlies into a poor financial state in order to provide proof for relocation. He tried to gain Canadian fan support by singing the Canadian national anthem at the opening game of the 2000-01 season. All of this was a ploy to gain support. In the end, he was seen as a typical corporate soulless individual. He killed any NBA fan support in British Columbia. Ironic, since it was a Canadian that invented the game.
