Pig is a 2021 American thriller film[2][3] co-written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, in his directorial debut. It stars Nicolas Cage, Alex Wolff and Adam Arkin, and follows a truffle forager whose beloved truffle-finding pig goes missing. It is scheduled to be released on July 16, 2021, by Neon. The film received positive reviews from critics.

Premise

A truffle hunter in the Oregon wilderness returns to his hometown of Portland to find his stolen pig.

Cast

Production

In September 2019, it was announced Nicolas Cage and Alex Wolff had joined the cast of the film, with Michael Sarnoski directing from a screenplay he wrote.[4]

Principal photography began September 23, 2019,[5] in Portland, Oregon.[6][7]

Release

In March 2020, Neon acquired U.S. distribution rights to the film.[8] Pig is scheduled for theatrical release in the United States on July 16, 2021.[9]

Reception

On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 96% based on 27 reviews, with an average rating of 8.2/10.[10] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 84 out of 100, based on 14 critics, indicating "universal acclaim".[11]

Mike D'Angelo of The A.V. Club gave the film a "A", writing that "Like the animal itself, Pig is considerably smarter and more ardent than it appears at first glance, and unearths treasures that are barely evident on the surface level. We'd have settled for much less, but what a rare treat to be offered a great deal more."[12] The Playlist's Nick Crump gave the film "B+" and wrote: "There's no action here, no real revenge to take, but there's a meaty, idiosyncratic, and especially moving story about finding peace in loss."[13]
