The German government and Heckler & Koch threatened the Mexican government and the SEDENA (''Secretaria de Defensa Nacional''), to sue them in International Courts if the gun already made were not destroyed and a compensation paid. The case is still in process.{{fact}}

If the case is favorable to Mexico, these rifles will slowly replace the [[Heckler & Koch G3]] rifles made under license by DIM (''Departamento de la Industria Militar'') and DGDF (''Direccion General de Fabricas de la Defensa''). The Mexican Army produces 100% all of its parts.

The FX-05 "Xiuhcoatl" (Fire Serpent in the Nahuatl language) is an assault rifle, based on the G-36 assault, designed and built by the Dirección General de Industria Militar del Ejército with machinery and technology bought from Heckler & Koch. Its currently in use by the Mexican Army.

The rifle was officially presented in the military parade on September 16 2006, in the hands of the Special Forces Airmobile Group, GAFE. (Grupo Aeromóvil de Fuerzas Especiales). The redesign was in charge CIADTIM and SDN and all of its part are built in Mexico.

Design

The Mexican design of the weapon includes telescopic, red-dot and mechanical sights, tube forged in cold; folding and adjustable butt, as well as a two way shot selector. The weapon uses 5.56 X 45 caliber rounds, and has a rate of fire of 700-750 rounds per minute. Most of the rifle's receiver is constructed of carbon fiber reinforced polymer, on dark green and desert tan colors. The internal mechanism and barrel is made of advanced resistant stainless steel.
