== Italians in the 1st century BEFORE common era?! ==

In the passage about a slave market 2000+ years ago, there is twice a mention of some purported "Italians", which is absolutely ludicrous, as Italy does not exist as even an idea before the 12th century of the common era. Moreover, once it even lists "Romans and Italians". How come that no one who knows more about the specific topic of Delos hasn't edited this? I mean I do not know what it is supposed to mean, but it certainly does not mean what is written there, as it is simply impossible.

Delos island is one of two islands (called Diles - ΔΗΛΕΣ -, plural for Delos). The other island which is larger in area is Rhenia - ΡΗΝΙΑ- .

Not sure if you're suggesting an edit. Are you suggesting the "Delos" article should actually be about both islands? Also, please log in and sign your posts, thanks. --Rodii 20:50, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't Cleopatra have a home in Delos that has been uncovered? (not the cleopatra you're thinking of, just someone with the same name) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.146.156.130 (talk) 07:14, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kynthos is a pre-Greek name? What is it, "Indo-European"? How can you make claims like that when Indo-European is a reconstructed, completely hypothetical language. Article has been edited.

While they were apparently the first Greek-speaking people in the region, the Mycenaeans weren't the first people in the region — it's like saying that English places named "Combe" have pre-English names, since that's a Celtic name. Nyttend (talk) 00:27, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Area

The area is probably not 40 km as stated here. In other wikipedias it's 3-4 square km.

Image locations

In my opinion images look better inlined with the text compared to placed at bottom in a gallery. What do you think? Daniel.Cardenas (talk) 18:46, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because it's a small article I just stuck those four in the gallery to relieve the gaps that occur with the pics in the article. El Greco(talk) 00:08, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The picture in the gallery with the description "Bust of Hermes" is that not just a Philosopher? Any reliable sources on this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.170.206.112 (talk) 17:19, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Map

Not colorblind friendly, consider the addition of a map with text or symbols rather than just a color indicator of location. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.149.80.46 (talk) 09:09, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. In fact, the dot used to indicate Delos' location is so tiny that those of us who aren't colorblind have a hard time seeing it.

It would greatly improve the article -- & better justify its "B" grading -- were a geographical section added: layout of the island (both the Google Map & Open Map images suggest that a conservation area of some kind covers the northern half of the island), & neighboring islands. It would also be a helpful improvement if its later history were provided: when did the island become uninhabited, & how did the archeological sites suffer for it? (I doubt that fishermen systematically demolished its structures & sculptures for the stone -- which were abundantly & more easily obtainable from the rest of Greece.) -- llywrch (talk) 20:25, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Italians in the 1st century BEFORE common era?!

Sorry, but that idea is complete rubbish.

Coordinate error

{{geodata-check}}

The following coordinate fixes are needed for the coordinates are pointing to Mykonos, not Delos.

72.241.72.145 (talk) 19:22, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. The coordinates in the article (title space, infobox, and "UNESCO World Heritage Site" box) appear to be correct. If you still think that there is an error, please explain in greater detail below (using the {{geodata-check}} template again), and someone will be along to deal with the matter. Delos disappears when I click the map

I want to get a close-up view of the map. So I click on it to see precisely where Delos is. When I get the magnified view of the map, the red dot supposedly indicating Delos disappears. And that is not good.CountMacula (talk) 15:17, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
