Andrzej S. Nowak is an civil engineer and an Elton and Lois G. Huff Eminent Scholar Chair and professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Auburn University.
He was an interim chairperson in Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2009 to 2011. Also, he was a professor at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (1979-2004). He is an author and co-author of more than twenty-five books and monographs, about one hundred and fifty academic articles, and three hundred published papers delivered at specialist science conferences. So far he has been a dissertation supervisor of more than forty doctorate theses. He had a major contribution to structural reliability and Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) philosophy.
He is an author of Reliability of Structures and a pioneer in the field of structural reliability.
Biography
Education
Nowak received his Ph.D. degrees from the Politechnika Warszawska, Warsaw, Poland in 1975. His principal research interests are analysis and design of structures, evaluation of existing structures, risk and reliability analysis of structures.
Career
He is a chairperson in civil and environmental engineering at Auburn University. He was serving as Robert W. Brightfelt professor of civil and environmental engineering at University of Nebraska (Civil Engineering) from 2005 to 2013, while he was an Interim Chair from 2009 to 2011. Also, he is an emeritus professor of University of Michigan, where he served there for more than 25 years from 1979 to 2004.
He is an author and co-author of more than twenty books and monographs, more than one hundred academic articles, and two hundred fifty published papers delivered at specialist science conferences. So far he has been a dissertation supervisor of more than thirty doctorate theses. His major is reliability theory and its application in civil engineering.
