Aroras and Khatris
There seem to be many sources that show that these castes are different and mentions them separately in the same sentence. I will list the sources. Can someone who has more context on the castes on the Punjab region of India comment? Thanks LukeEmily (talk) 18:29, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
From the leading newspaper in Punjab. https://www.punjabkesari.in/national/news/arora-society-is-descended-from-lord-rama-810587
Please understand the context. https://books.google.com/books/about/Structure_and_Change_in_Indian_Society.html?id=_g-_r-9Oa_sC
The source clearly addresses the issue and differentiates the "Khatris" from the "Arora Khatris". The latter had immigrated to the upper Punjab from the south of Lahore after the invasion of Sindh by the Arabs. Therefore, for centuries they were socioeconomically inferior to the already settled Khatris.
Yet, most scholars admit that both the groups are of the same ethenic stock. Moreover, intermarraiges between the two groups is a common and old phenomenon. Please note, inter caste marriages are still new in the Indian society.
If you may please care to know, Arora Khatris are more in numbers than all the other Khatris combined.
Arora Khatri and Khatri population combined is estimated to be around 10 million in India.
All the best.
