Magic Desk

  • ... that in Magic Desk I, the icons within the main screen for the phone, the calculator, the spreadsheet, and the Rolodex do nothing? Source: "You can point at the phone, Rolodex, calculator or spreadsheet and nothing happens. Commodore presumably included this frustrating feature to whet your appetite for future Magic Desk software" (Milewski 1984, p. 62).
    • ALT1:... that Commodore scrapped succeeding entries of Magic Desk that would have included speech synthesis? Source: ("After Feagans easily integrated voice capability with Magic Desk, the marketing team decided it would be a good addition to the TED computer, which they would call the 364. 'That was basically just a 264 with a numeric keypad and a Magic Voice speech synthesis built in' ... Commodore had shown multiple flavors of the 264 at CES and decided to cancel the Magic Desk and Logo versions. Instead, it would focus on the most popular versions: one with 64 kilobytes of memory and one with only 16 kilobytes" (Bagnall 2010, p. 512).
