Ahh I see. That makes more sense. I'll still try to keep looking for a reliable source for his real birthday. Thanks. [[User:Dcdiehardfan|Dcdiehardfan]] ([[User talk:Dcdiehardfan|talk]]) 05:29, 20 July 2021 (UTC) |

Someone explain to me why the user reverted the edition of the IP that he recently removed and put the citizenship of this actor to the Infobox and the short description too? See: [https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Kumail_Nanjiani&diff=1051812286&oldid=1051717589 here] and this reason [https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Kumail_Nanjiani&diff=1051848323&oldid=1051847398 here]. Uncited
This was removed from the article because it wasn't cited:
Since beginning his career in Chicago, he has performed standup on a number of television programs including the Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and Conan. He also had a recurring role and was a staff writer on Michael & Michael Have Issues and has appeared on The Colbert Report and Burning Love. Candleabracadabra (talk) 12:09, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
This was also removed:
He was named one of Comedy Central's breakout comedians of 2009, along with Nick Kroll, Aziz Ansari, Whitney Cummings, Donald Glover, Matt Braunger, T.J. Miller, Anthony Jeselnik, and Jon Lajoie.

Please just be aware that as it stands now, there's really nothing in the article concerning Kumail's history as a stand-up comedian, other than brief or indirect references to it. It's a glaring omission for any reader who was prompted to access this page after viewing The Big Sick. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Convit (talk • contribs) 10:35, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
Nationality in lede
I changed it to American, since he became notable after moving to America. I sometimes see Pakistani-born American or the like. Does he still hold Pakistani citizenship? This could effect the info box and categories as well. --Malerooster (talk) 22:24, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
- Some people seem to be adding and deleting things from the lede, so I just commented out "American" and all the "American" categories because there are no citations to show that he's a U.S. citizen. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but categories are still covered by WP:BLP. I think keeping "Pakistani" is at least plausible because he apparently was born there, and has called himself Pakistani repeatedly in past material, and, though I don't know Pakistani nationality law, I would think one would probably have to take specific action to lose citizenship. If there's any reliable source where he's implied that he's lost citizenship, then that would be another story. --Closeapple (talk) 02:03, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
Religion
In the article he's labeled as "Former muslim". In this interview from april 2017 he says he is muslim. You can watch it by searching "Kumail Nanjiani on How We See Muslims" with Chelsea, from 0:42 mark and onwards (cant paste the URL due to spam filter). Think this should be corrected in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Um27 (talk • contribs) 10:50, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- This [1] looks to be the link. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 18:31, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
- @TonyIsTheWoman: Please watch the clip from around the point that the OP suggested. Nanjiani says he is a Muslim, and this is a newer statement so it would trump the previous statement. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 23:24, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
- Hey @Emir of Wikipedia:! I'm aware of video and see it as nothing but an amplification in the context of the anecdote that he told about his wife; certainly not statement that would abolish his previous one, in the in-depth interview that he gave. Furthermore, I reckon it's important that we try and reflect subject's practises and beliefs as accurately as possible. TonyIsTheWoman (talk) 14:27, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
- I did think that it may be just "an amplification in the context of the anecdote" which is why I didn't write that he currently is a Muslim. but it was still enough for me to doubt the other statement which is why I removed it. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 21:53, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
- His recent interview says he is a Muslim, so we should add it in the article, Simple. --137.59.194.121 (talk) 01:55, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

- In the AV Club interview he never 'himself says he an atheist. However in the Chelsea interview he says he is a Muslim when discussing the representation of Muslims in media so I think we should add what he said and not what he didn't.--221.120.237.50 (talk) 06:10, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
Note – both "atheist" and "fundamentalist" are mentioned by the interviewer, not Nanjiani. For accuracy and to prevent constant reverts and edit wars, I reckon it would be correct to avoid both descriptions. I agree that "atheist" ought to be replaced with "secular". Your thoughts, @Emir of Wikipedia:? TonyIsTheWoman (talk) 06:38, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- It might be best to avoid both descriptions then. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 10:56, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
Birthdate
Just so anyone who finds this from Twitter knows what's going on, the article previously stated his birthdate to be Feb 21, 1978. According to Nanjiani's official twitter, Feb 21 is not the correct date (https://twitter.com/kumailn/status/1230901747670872065). The article was sourcing the (apparently incorrect) date based on a birthday wish from third party twitter account https://twitter.com/TVsJonDore/status/39885028154548224 post, but that's not a reputable source. There was also a NYT article that states that he was 31 years old in 2009 (https://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/01/arts/television/01koni.html), but that's not enough to go on. According to Wikipedia's BLP criteria, if his birthday is added to the article, it should be sourced, or at least have a consensus. (Note that Nanjiani's Twitter post about 2/21 NOT being his birthday isn't a reputable source -- he's a comedian, perhaps it's a joke) DaRkAgE7[Talk] 21:20, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
- https://twitter.com/jonahray/status/991772046068600832 This tweet by Jonah Ray suggests that it's May 2nd. There are also some others that suggest that it's May 2nd, such as https://twitter.com/peteholmes/status/1680407471 and https://twitter.com/JazzPonce/status/13237929306. Not very verifiable but it's there. – BriefEdits (talk) 21:49, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
- For reference, the first birthday edit was in July 31, 2013 by User:Corkdraw https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Kumail_Nanjiani&diff=566553308&oldid=565771057&diffmode=source – BriefEdits (talk) 21:49, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hi. I was comfortable enough to make this edit adding a birth year of 1978 with a citation. If anyone feels that's insufficient, please feel free to revert, tho we should also remove Category:1978 births as well then. --MZMcBride (talk) 08:24, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
- It looks like someone else change it back to February, without references, and then someone else changed it to May, again references. I put it back to 1977/1978 with the Cosmo citation again. Maybe we need to add a warning that Twitter is not a source, or just not to add birth junk without reliable sources. --Closeapple (talk) 01:57, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
Reliable source?
Question, since the birthrate of Nanjiani seems to be Feb 21, 1987 but hasn't been properly cited, I looked online and found that Famous Birthdays confirmed this. I was just wondering if Famous Birthdays is a reliable source or not? Dcdiehardfan (talk) 05:46, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
- No, it is not. They probably got the birthday from us. Jorm (talk) 19:48, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
- What Jorm said. The consensus is that Feb 21 is likely not correct, see Talk:Kumail_Nanjiani#Birthdate DaRkAgE7[Talk] 00:01, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
Ahh I see. That makes more sense. I'll still try to keep looking for a reliable source for his real birthday. Thanks. Dcdiehardfan (talk) 05:29, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
