Ang Wei Neng (Chinese: 洪维能; pinyin: Hóng Wéinéng; born 1967)[1] is a Singaporean politician. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he is a Member of the 14th Parliament and has been representing the Nanyang ward of West Coast Group Representation Constituency (GRC) since 2020. He was previously the Member of Parliament representing the Jurong Central ward of Jurong GRC from 2011 to 2020.

Education

Ang attended The Chinese High School and Hwa Chong Junior College[2] before he received a Public Service Commission scholarship to study at the National University of Singapore, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Sciences (honours). He also completed a Master of Business Administration at Nanyang Technological University.[3] [4]

Career

Ang has been the CEO of ComfortDelGro Taxi Business since 2017. He was the Head of Bus Operations after joining SBS Transit in 2004. Ang started his career in the Singapore Police Force (SPF), serving his scholarship bond after graduating from the National University of Singapore. When he was in the Singapore Police Force, he set up the Police Psychological Unit besides serving as the Head of Operations in a Police land division. Thereafter, Ang became a profit centre manager in the American International Group (AIG) before moving on to regional roles in Asia under different companies prior to joining the ComfortDelGro Group of Companies.

Political career

Ang has been the Member of Parliament representing the Nanyang ward of West Coast GRC since July 2020. He was previously the Member of Parliament for the Jurong Central ward of Jurong GRC from May 2011 to June 2020. Ang is the Chairman of the Singapore Parliament Estimates Committee, member of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Health and Transport as well as the Vice Chairman of West Coast Town Council.  

Ang champions the holistic development and employment opportunities of people with disabilities and was a key member of the Enabling Master Plan II & III; Implementation Advisory Panel on Compulsory Education for Children with Special Educational Needs. He is also a current member of the Grace Orchard School's (school for students with mild intellectual disability) Management Committee.

Ang was the Chairman for the River Hongbao 2019 (Bicentennial Edition) which attracted about 1.5 million visitors to the event venue at the floating platform, featuring spectacular fireworks performances from the United States, Italy, China and Australia for the first time.  He was also the immediate past President (2014-2020) of the Volleyball Association of Singapore.

Ang is married with four children.
