Jenny Rosa Schily (born 14 May 1967)[1][2] is a German actress who works in theater and film. She is also a speaker for radio plays.

Life

Schily was born in West Berlin, the daughter of lawyer and politician Otto Schily and his first wife, painter Christiane Schily[2] née Hellwag. Her two given names were in given in referrence to Jenny Marx and Rosa Luxemburg respectively.[3] She is also the great-granddaughter of architect Bruno Taut.[4] After studying Slavic studies,[2] which was broken off after two semesters, she studied acting from at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin from 1991 to 1995.[5] Her first engagement took her to Staatsschauspiel Dresden, where she made her debut in the title role in Emilia Galotti. Then she was at Schauspiel Frankfurt and a member of the ensemble at the Theater am Turm. From 2002 to 2006, she was engaged at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin and at the Maxim Gorki Theater in 2010 and 2011.
