Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! If you're new to our community, drop us a note here and tell us a little bit about yourself. Most important, we would like to know about your interests (for which we have a separate page), your areas of knowledge, and the sorts of things you'd like to work on here at Wikipedia. That makes it easier for us to help you start editing. We'd also appreciate it if you told us how you found out about Wikipedia.
- To add yourself to the list:
- post a comment,
- enter your name as the subject/headline (which will make a new header for you in the log), and
- sign your name at the end of your comment by typing four tildes: ~~~~. (This code makes a link to your user page, which readers can use to welcome you personally if they like).
- Your comments will then be added to the bottom of the list.
- To add yourself to the list:
You may also like to add yourself to other lists, such as the listing in order of arrival, by country, or by skills (such as translation or photography). Finally, if you want a little personal assistance in using or contributing to the site, you might go through one of the Bootcamps or you may wish be adopted by an experienced editor.
An automatically generated list of new users can be found at Special:Log/Newusers.

Welcome
I know this is way out of date as I became a wikipedian on 17 November 2006. I am interested in video games and cartoons. In particuler Pokemon Yu-Gi-Oh and SpongeBob. I know a lot about video games and Pokemon through reading Pokemon World. I discovered wikipedia in 2005 when I was searching for Mario on my school computers. Love the idea of a Factual wikipedia, but loggedon and found that a very small number of Administrators seem to have a lot of power. They think their POV is not a pov, but fact!! Then decide that anyone who doesnt agree with them is biased, following a personal pov and a vandal. Hope to be able to cause some problems for them, especially (removed). Englandtillidie 17:32, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- Wow! You hope to "cause some problems for them"? If that's really your attitude, I'm afraid you'll fall onto hard times rather quickly. Please be sure to read WP:CIV, WP:NPA, and especially WP:AGF. But if you're truly here to help improve the encyclopedia, then welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello All, My name is Horacio and I stumbled on Wikipedia about a year ago, while searching for some obscure topic I can't remember. Now, I use it to pass the time at work, by searching for any topic that comes to mind. I joined in hopes of one day being a decent contributor. Well I can't think of anything more to say. Have a great day everybody...

Daniel Aguallo is a Business Leader on the move. He owns and operates one of the fastest growing Marketing Firms in South Texas and is the founder of Business Leaders of San Antonio. He is by far San Antonio finest and yet still remains humble. He stated, " I have a ridiculous house and evey toy that you could image, but I will still remain honest, joyful and respect my family values." He also wanted me to point out that he was currently in the market for merging with San Antonio top 5 advertising firms Advertising Unlimited.

Here is my LED info website, if you want to comment on its usefuleness http://www.fun-led-light.com you are most welcome. It's about time!/KitLouise
Well, I finally did it. I've been enjoying Wikipedia 4 ever and I've finally joined. I expect to be around for a long time. I've even started my daughter using it for her school projects. So what about me?
- I'm a techie. I've built hardware and written software for a living and (believe it or not) for fun.
- I'm an avid reader - I'll read until my eyes hurt, and then take my glasses off and read s'more. That's why I love WikiPed so much. I visit at least once a day and always find something new.
- I'm a novice jewelry maker. I'm teaching myself and no one else wears it (or should, at this point) but me. :) I have pierced ears and truly love earrings.
- I love all the arts - visual and performing. I guess you could say I'm a frustrated dancer - too short for anything except children's parts. Sigh...
- I love the water - although I don't swim very well. I used to love body surfing in the ocean until I promised not to do it anymore. Another sigh...
- I love laughter - I wish it were a virus so it could infect the world. Ditto Love, Peace and Happiness.
See you next time...

All,
I am a very old user of Wikipedia, but currently a Wikipedian as of Nov 2006. My motivation to subscribe is because of lack of many entries in Algorithms and technical terms in Operations Research.
I might have heard of Wikipedia through Google but I do not remember; it has been a long time ago. My background is Computer Engineering, but I am very much interested in Operations Research (OR) with particular focus on Mathematical programmings.
Hope to network with people in OR. I am a long time intermittent Linux user.

JustJC reporting for duty
I have used Wikipedia for years and tell everyone about it. I have some writing skills and I think this might be a good place to use them. My past includes office work in various and varied industries (construction, social services, real estate development, manufacturing). And, I have worked in different business areas (sales, marketing, grant development, clerical). I have lived in Minnesota, Arizona, and California. I went back to college in 1995 for a BS in Computer Science and then worked as a Software Engineer with information development tools for a Big Blue company. They laid me off in 2001. I am interested in and curious about many things. My artsy side is usually focused on theater and writing. My techy side is usually focused on developing websites for artsy people. I read books. Lots of books, mostly fiction.
I hope that I've given enough information for someone to say, "Hey, help me with this thing."

Hi, my names hodgie and i've been using wikipedia since... i found it. I've always wanted to edit and create things here and now I get to. I'm intrested in computers(inernet, programming) and music(singing, bass guitar, tuba) and thus, my skills and knowledge fall into those two categories. What I lack in spelling skills I make up for in grammatical capabilities.

Compulsion101 - Introductory Contributor Notes
I have been writing nearly 23 years for myself and others both creatively and professionally. I have a lawyer type mentality that analyzes everything down to Ultimate Truth.
I come to Wikipedia when I want to learn something and I find the variety of editors on topic gives a well-rounded and unbiased view. I hope to add to the well-rounded and unbiased nature of WP articles.
My personal knowledge base is widely varied and I have lived in all US regions except the Southwest (although I have spent some time in California). My primary skill sets involve communicating the abstract - especially Archetypes, people and their motivations, and helping other people communicate. I am a horrible speller.
I suffer from Sleep Paralysis and Hypergraphia but have not had an attack of either in six months or more.

I'm just a fifteen year old aussie (and proud of it!) who is kinda tubby and a bit of nerd. I have some trivial knowledge but my knowledge is generally Western Australia. I don't get around to much editing, i'm usually busier than a one armed bricklayer in baghdad, besides, i'm not that good anyway. Any help to "supe" up my user page would be really appreciated.
Things i hate!
I hate vandalism, and people who write complete fallacies on articles for a laugh, which belong on Uncyclopedia. I love Western Australians, but i hate melbourne ppl (For you americans, melbourners are the aussie equivalent to your New Yorkians/Yorkans/Yorkers). I hate people who hate vegemite, Hippies and "Rangga's"

Karen Kellock
My name is Karen Kellock. I received my Ph.D. in psychology (specifically Systems Theory of pathology) in 1976 from University of California, Irvine. Then I was a post-doc under NIMH and NIAAA research grants at the Dept. of Psychiatry, UCI Medical School. In 1980 I had a vision of a new theory (matrix) in psychology with a general formula: all disease is obstruction, all recovery elimination and all success attraction. The three obstructions were people, habit and food. In the eighties I left society for the desert wilderness to write out this theory which culminated in a ten-book series called CHAMPION GUIDES. I see now that Wikipedia is too social for me: editions are based on consensual validation of which I want no part-- since all discoverers in history were at first unacceptable to their epistemological community.
Encyclopedias are easier than this...
I thought WIKI was a global repository of information, starting from a mere beginning, to a qualified resourse but aparently nobody gives a damn about U.S. Naval veterans nor Adm. Farrugut of PA, or post Civil war associations. Google it ! ciao UNiRaC 00:28, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Nehoccramcire checks in
Hello all. I've been using Wikipedia for the past year or so, mostly at work, where I need to research a wide variety of subjects revolving around the natural world: animals, plants, geographical features, that sort of thing. I try not to rely on Wikipedia as an authoritative source, more as a way to either jog my memory about things I already knew, or to suggest directions in which I might research subjects using other sources. I love Wikipedia's "open" character. I used to really wonder what the point was of that hundred-pound set of World Book Encyclopedias that I had as a kid. I used it in school of course, but it always seemed so musty and out of date, which of course, it was, as soon as it left the printer.
I think it needs to be said, though, that reading books is of the utmost importance. Peering at words emanating from a lit screen will never replace the physical experience of engaging a text that you hold in your hands. I don't need to list the reasons for this, and I don't mean to preach here like some Luddite, either, I just want to assure everyone that being a Wikipedia devotee does not require being a computer addict!
Anyway, I doubt I'll be getting around to figuring out the ins and outs of editing Wikipedia pages anytime soon, but there's always hope!
Peace, love, to the future, to your health,
Nehoccramcire 21:17, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Registered two weeks, but I only just discovered this new user log.
Google searches repeatedly led me to Wikipedia.
Mostly my contributions have been (and will be) in the area of indie rock, especially from Canadian artists, the sort you might hear on CBC Radio 3.
I have also been having fun doing some general copy-editing and cleaning up disambiguation pages.

My name is Dave and I am the son of a World War II US Marine Bomber Squadron VMB-611 PBJ pilot who served in the Pacific. He and his crew went MIA on May 30, 1945. For the past several years, I have been using the Internet to research and learn more about my father's squadron, and its sister squadrons, role in WWII.
One part of my research includes being a member of another website community to placemark the locations my father and his squadron were during the war. This has led me several times to Wikipedia articles that have provided additional information.
As I found little or no history on VMB-611, I got the idea of joining Wikipedia to write an article on the history of my father's squadron and its contributions to the war. I joined in January 2007, am taking it slow, and know I have a LOT to learn about Wikipedia before I attempt to write my article, much less edit other's articles.
Of couse, my interest is the WWII Solomon Islands and Southern Philippine Islands operations.

Richard Gillard
Hello
My name is Richard and I am new user to Wikipedia. I have been using the Website as an encyclopedia for some time. However, I have only recently started adding any edits of my own.
My initial edits were to the Wikipedia page about the glamour model Teresa May. I was privileged to be Teresa's gardener during the summer of 2006. As such I noticed a couple of minor inaccuracies about her date of birth, as listed on Wikipedia. Apart from some uncertainty as to whether her birthday was on 15th or 17th of December (for future reference it is on the 15th) I noted that her date of birth, as recorded on Wikipedia, made her a whole year older than she actually is. Generally it is not considered polite to discuss a lady's age, let alone to broadcast that she is older than she actually is. Consequently, I thought it only proper that I should correct the error. Regretably, I did not have the information with which to make this correction, until after I had already committed the faux pas of sending her a card to wish her a happy 40th birthday, on the occassion of her 39th!
My other main edit has been to the page on the Rupee, the currency of India. I thought that it would be useful to enter a brief description of the terms used to discuss large denominations. This was because I had just visited some websites about buying property in India and had come across the terms for larger denominations not knowing what they meant. When I could not find those terms on Wikipedia (other than buried deep in the discussions of the currency's finer points - where I had not thought to look on an initial reading) I looked them up elsewhere. It then seemed sensible to add a reference to them at the start of Wikipedia's discussion of the Rupee. I cannot remember what these terms are now. However, you should now be able to find them under the discussion of the Rupee, unless subsequent edits have removed them for any reason.
My e-mail address, should anyone wish to contact me, is:
richardgillard322@btinternet.com
My web address if:
http://uk.geocities.com/richardgillard322@btinternet.com/
I should warn you that I do not know how much longer I will have either of these addresses. I have been a very foolish and dissolute boy over the last few years. As a result I lost my job (Potential Employers - Please note) and, subsequently, lost a lovely flat in Highgate. I now live deep in the Suburbs of Bedford (for which I am profoundly unsuited, being of a much more urban and urbane frame of mind). More importantly I am no longer in receipt of a salary and cannot say with any degree of certainty how much longer I will be able to pay my telephone bill. Should I stop paying it my access to my e-mail acount will be cut off. Under such circumstances it seems exceedingly unlikely that BT will continue to host my website for me.
Incidentally, in case there should be any confusion, when I say I lost my job I am not referring to my role as Teresa's gardener. I am referring to my employment as a computer programmer working for a certain very cynically managed retail chain. I built the Loyalty Database for this company (ungrateful little sh*ts that they were). My role as gardener was a hobby merely, a little occupational therapy, which Teresa kindly provided me in order to help me escape from a number of troubles which have recently enveloped my life and which it would be far too tedious to discuss here.
My interests and passions vary. They depend to a large extent on how well I am doing at any moment in time (Please see the Wikipedia reference to Maslow's Triangle for further details on this point). However, when I am feeling good about myself, such as was the case in the days when I knew where the next pay cheque was coming from. My interests are (or have been) as follows:
The cinema - My favourite movie of all time being "The Devils" by Ken Russell
Drama and The Theatre: Some of my favourite dramatists being: Shakespeare, Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde and Michael Frayn.
Art - I have in my time been a member / friend at: The Royal Academy, The Tate, The Hayward Gallery and the V & A.
Reading - Everything from Dante's Inferno to Irvine Welsh's Marabou Stork Nightmares, via Ovid, Virgil, Homer, Sophocles, Euripides, Aldous Huxley, Oscar Wilde, George Bernard Shaw and George Orwell.
Travelling - Some of my favourite cities being: London, Barcelona, Paris, Dublin, Rome, Edinburgh and New York.
Comparative Religion - I particularly enjoy rumaging through the bible for the the sexy bits (such as: The Song of Solomon) or for passages of sex and violence, which are by no means sexy, such as Judges Chapter 19. I also enjoy biblical scholarship, when I come across any such which is not a contradiction in terms. For example: Richard Friedman's book: Who Wrote the Bible?
Philosophy - I cannot understand most of it but occassionally I come across someone who says something I am interested in, such a Benedict Spinoza or The Marquis De Sade (If one can really refer to the latter's work as philosophy). Also, and I feel I should take some pains to point this out, when I refer to De Sade's philosophy, I am talking only about when he discusses whether one should worship God or nature (perhaps failing to notice that they are one and the same). With regard to the remainder of De Sade's work the man should have been locked up! Whoops I am forgetting - he was!
Anyway, I think that is enough of an introduction for now.
