• SS California (1890), sailing ship built by Harland and Wolff in 1890 for North Western Shipping
• SS California (1902), a UK passenger ship built in 1902 for the Pacific Steam Navigation Company and torpedoed on 17 October 1917
• SS California (1907), a UK passenger ship built in 1907 and torpedoed on 7 February 1917
• SS West Hixton, a US cargo ship built in 1920 and later renamed California
• SS Albania (1920), an ocean liner built in Scotland in 1920 and later renamed California by her Italian owners
