Riniki Bhuyan Sharma is a lawyer, entrepreneur, Social activist and a business woman from Assam.[1] She is the managing director of the largest media house of Northeast India, Pride East Entertainment.[2] Apart from that she is also the wife of Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.[1][3]

Early life

Riniki was born and grew up in Guwahati to a well-known industrialist of that time Late Jadav Chandra Bhuyan.[1][8]

She completed her Primary and Secondary education from St. Mary's High School,[1] Guwahati and then joined Cotton College and completed her graduation in political science.[4] After her graduation, she then pursued LLB from Govt. Law College of Guwahati.[1][9][8]

She met and fell in love with Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in Cotton College when she was 17 years old, who eventually is her husband now.[10][11]

Now the couple is blessed with two children. Nandil Biswa Sarma (son) and Sukanya Sarma (daughter).[11][12]

Career

Riniki is the Chairman of her media house and holding company Pride East Entertainments,[2] which is a parent company of several channels. It includes, two news channels (News Live & Nort East Live),[13] three entertainment channels (Ramdhenu, Rang & Indradhanu) and one Assamese News paper (Niyamiya Barta).[1][14][5]

Apart from the entrepreneurship, she is also a philanthropist. She is currently operating three Non-Governmental Organisation's (NGO), they are Sneha Bandhan, Udayanchal & The Golden Threads of Assam.[1][15][16]

Riniki is a lawyer by profession and also was the state level Tennis Player. She represented Assam in several National tennis tournaments.[1]

Awards

Riniki Bhuyan Sharma won the Prag Prerana Award in March 2020[17] and also won the Mahayasi and Garissi Awards in 2021.[18]
