Question from Kiera Roche on User:Kiera Roche/sandbox (06:19, 19 December 2021)
Hi, i have created a page for the charity I run. How do I publish it to Wikipedia for other people to see?
LimbPower --Kiera Roche (talk) 06:19, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Kiera Roche: You place
{{subst:submit}}
at the top of your page, and then it will be reviewed (which may take up to 3 months). ― Qwerfjkltalk 09:29, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
Empty categories
Hello, Qwerfjkl,
Thank you so much for tagging the empty categories! For years, I did this task every morning (U.S. time) but lately I've been getting to it later and later in the day and I didn't do it at all yesterday so today's list was twice as long. It's good that there is more than one person who checks this list. Typically, there are between 10-20 categories each day but it can get into the hundreds depending on what pages have been deleted so extra help is always welcome. It doesn't take a lot of time to do, but it's good to stay on top of so things don't pile up.
There are a few editors who create most of our categories who have asked not to be notified when a category they created has become empty and I can relay this information to you if you pick this up as a regular task and add it to your already crowded list of things you tend to on Wikipedia. Thanks again! Liz Read! Talk! 23:09, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- No problem! I intend to keep patrolling Special:UnusedCategories, so a list of editors not to notify would be great. Thanks! ― Qwerfjkltalk 12:37, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- Pinging @Liz. (Or Wikipedia:Database reports/Empty categories.) ― Qwerfjkltalk 07:19, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll start thinking about that list. By the way, User:Qwerfjkl/scripts/unusedCategories.js is classified as an empty category so you might want to add in a colon somewhere on the page so that it isn't tagged for deletion. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 23:41, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, and yes, Wikipedia:Database reports/Empty categories is the page I use as it is compiled nightly (at least it's night for me) while Special:UnusedCategories is only compiled every 3 days. But, Special:UnusedCategories does have empty maintenance categories which for some reason are omitted on the Database report so that is a useful feature. Liz Read! Talk! 23:44, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
- I have a comment about this that I'd prefer to email you but you don't have email enabled. So..... Liz Read! Talk! 17:35, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Liz: Just enabled it (I thought I already had). ― Qwerfjkltalk 17:37, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
- You got mail! Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 20:16, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
- Sadly I can't access my email on my.mobile device, so I'll read it tomorrow. ― Qwerfjkltalk 20:21, 20 December 2021 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Tech News
- Because of the holidays the next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 10 January 2022.
Recent changes
- Queries made by the DynamicPageList extension (
<DynamicPageList>
) are now only allowed to run for 10 seconds and error if they take longer. This is in response to multiple outages where long-running queries caused an outage on all wikis. [1]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week or next week.
Future changes
- The developers of the Wikipedia iOS app are looking for testers who edit in multiple languages. You can read more and let them know if you are interested.
- The Wikimedia Cloud VPS hosts technical projects for the Wikimedia movement. Developers need to claim projects they use. This is because old and unused projects are removed once a year. Unclaimed projects can be shut down from February. [2]

Why NO BOTS
Hi, why did you add "NO BOTS"[3] after listing Category:Hexadecimal color redirects for renaming? It does not appear to be populated by a template. May I remove this code on WP:CFDW so that a bot will process the task? – Fayenatic London 12:18, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Fayenatic london: Okay. ― Qwerfjkltalk 12:40, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Fayenatic london: Shouldn't the category be at Category:Redirects from hexadecimal colors, not Category:Redirects from hexadecimal color ? ― Qwerfjkltalk 13:17, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
- Agreed, other categories of "Redirects from..." take a plural at the end of the name. I'll process that as remedial work. (WP:G6) – Fayenatic London 16:03, 23 December 2021 (UTC)

Merry Christmas!
CAPTAIN RAJU(T) is wishing you a Merry Christmas!
This greeting (and season) promotes WikiLove and hopefully this note has made your day a little better. Spread the WikiLove by wishing another user a Merry Christmas, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past, a good friend, or just some random person. Happy New Year! Spread the Christmas cheer by adding {{subst:Xmas3}} to their talk page with a friendly message. |

Copying Signatures
Hi, I wanted to tell you something. Here you moved my question from the Teahouse, along with the signatures, which I think you are not supposed to do according to @Nick Moyes what he said here. I am quoting the part- If you find complex advice helpful, you could always think about making another sandbox page just for table advice, and either link to the diff that it was given, or copy/paste the reply into your sandbox page, and split it up into different headings. If you do the latter, strip out the persons signature - or at the very least the date/time stamp, but make an edit summary crediting them when you copy it into your sandbox. This is called 'attribution' and helps credit other peoples work
. So, why did you then copy the stuff along with the signatures? Is it allowed in some cases? ― ItcouldbepossibleTalk 07:10, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi! It's fine to keep the signatures if you're just moving a discussion (otherwise it would be hard to understand). When you are testing something in a sandbox, you may alter something somebody said, which would give a false impression (at least I think that's the issue). ― Qwerfjkltalk 09:26, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying my doubt. ItcouldbepossibleTalk 11:25, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
Ten Months
Hi, how come you made 50000 edits in only 10 months time? What is the secret? How much time do you spend at Wikipedia? ― ItcouldbepossibleTalk 05:29, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Itcouldbepossible: I am very active in Wikipedia, and I do a lot of semi-automatic editing - see AWB. ― Qwerfjkltalk 09:21, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, I knew about WP:AWB, but did not know, that if could help make so many edits, in so less time. ItcouldbepossibleTalk 11:28, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

RFA 2021 Completed
The 2021 re-examination of RFA has been completed. 23 (plus 2 variants) ideas were proposed. Over 200 editors participated in this final phase. Three changes gained consensus and two proposals were identified by the closers as having the potential to gain consensus with some further discussion and iteration. Thanks to all who helped to close the discussion, and in particular Primefac, Lee Vilenski, and Ymblanter for closing the most difficult conversations and for TonyBallioni for closing the review of one of the closes.
The following proposals gained consensus and have all been implemented:
- Revision of standard question 1 to
Why are you interested in becoming an administrator?
Special thanks to xaosflux for help with implementation. - A new process, Administrative Action Review (XRV) designed to review if an editor's specific use of an advanced permission, including the admin tools, is consistent with policy in a process similar to that of deletion review and move review. Thanks to all the editors who contributed (and are continuing to contribute) to the discussion of how to implement this proposal.
- Removal of autopatrol from the administrator's toolkit. Special thanks to Wugapodes and Seddon for their help with implementation.
The following proposals were identified by the closers as having the potential to gain consensus with some further discussion and iteration:
- An option for people to run for temporary adminship (proposal, discussion, & close)
- An optional election process (proposal & discussion and close review & re-close)
Editors who wish to discuss these ideas or other ideas on how to try to address any of the six issues identified during phase 1 for which no proposal gained are encouraged to do so at RFA's talk page or an appropriate village pump.
A final and huge thanks all those who participated in this effort to improve our RFA process over the last 4 months.
This is the final update with no further talk page messages planned.

It does not make any sense to mix singular and plural entries on the disambiguation page Lupae when the Lupa page already exists. It's fine to mix singular and plural on the same page, but there should only be one page with all the other disambiguation titles pointing to it. SpinningSpark 15:19, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
