State Electricity Regulatory Commission (India) is an autonomous,statutory and Regulatory body constituted for ensuring generation and distribution of Electricity in States and Union Territories of India. State Electricity Regulatory Commission (India) are formed as per Constitution of India in states and union territories of India by notification in official gazette in accordance with Electricity Regulatory Commissions Act, 1998. The President and other members of State Electricity Regulatory Commission (India) are appointed by State Government.

History and objective

State Electricity Regulatory Commission (India) is formed with the following objectives[1]:

Regulating the purchase and procurement of electricity by distribution licensees.

Facilitating intra-state transmission of electricity and issuing licences to applicants for transmission licensees, distribution licensees and electricity traders within the state.

Determining the tariffs for the generation, supply, transmission and wheeling of electricity (wholesale, bulk or retail) within the state. Adjudicate disputes between the licensees and/or the generating companies.

Specify state grid codes consistent with the grid code specified by Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) .
