Sven Kramer (born April 23, 1986 in Heerenveen, Friesland) is a Dutch speed skater. He is the son of former skater Yep Kramer. Kramer is widely regarded as the most promising young talent in Dutch speed skating.

In December 2004 he won the Dutch Allround Championships and thus qualified for the European Allround Championships for the first time, where he won the silver medal. At the World Allround Championships 2005 he became third. At the end of that season he signed a contract with the Dutch TVM-team.

Kramer set a new world record for the 5,000m in Salt Lake City on November 19, 2005. With his time of 6:08.78 he also entered the top 10 of the alltime world ranking, the Adelskalender.

On February 11, 2006 he won the silver medal at the 5,000m at the Winter Olympics in Turin. Kramer also participated in the team pursuit event. The Dutch team was favored and was leading Italy by nearly a full second in their semifinal matchup, but Kramer stepped on a block and fell, taking Carl Verheijen with him. In the race for bronze, the Dutch team defeated Norway, giving Kramer his second medal of the Games.

During the 2006 World Allround Championships in Calgary, Kramer set a new world record on the 10,000m with a time of 12:51.61. Kramer won both the two longest distances at the championships, but had to settle with bronze overall.

Kramer's younger sister Brecht Kramer, born four years later, is also a speed skater, and so is his former girlfriend, Olympian Annette Gerritsen. In 2007 he started a relationship with topmodel Doutzen Kroes.[1]

In this new season Sven Kramer has already been very successful: he won the first worldcup in Heerenveen, the Netherlands, and he also won the second worldcup in Berlin in 6.09,78, just one second of his own worldrecord. he had another succes, on the 23rd and 24th of December he became the national allround champion for the second time, with a personal record on his weakest distance the 500 meter, giving him great perspective for the international allround championships.

From the 12th to 14th of January 2007 Kramer was crowned European Allround Champion in Collalbo, Italy. There was a tight battle between Kramer and 2006 winner Enrico Fabris. Fabris had the best time in the 500m and 1500m events, but Kramer set the best time on the 5000 and the 10000m events, and Kramer overall score was lower than Fabris' (148.800 to 149.389) giving Kramer the victory. In addition, Kramer's times on the 5 and 10km distances were new world records for open air skating. By skating a new personal best time on the 1'500m Kramer improved his overall score on the Adelskalender. He beat fellow countryman Jochem Uytdehaage and Italian speed skater Enrico Fabris, and is ranked third as of January 13th 2007.
