The Battle of Chernihiv took place from 24 to 25 February 2022, during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Battle

At 03:27 (UTC+2), a captain and corporal from the Russian 11th Guards Air Assault Brigade surrendered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Chernihiv.[1] On the same day, Ukraine claimed that a reconnaissance platoon of the Russian 74th Motorized Rifle Brigade had surrendered.[2]

According to the British Ministry of Defense, Russian forces attacking Chernihiv on the 24th were halted outside the city.[3]

At 08:34 (UTC+2), the Ukrainian army repelled an attack by the Russian army in Chernihiv and seized Russian equipment and documents.[4]

At 14:25 (UTC+2), the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it had surrounded Chernihiv and was blockading the city.[5]
