Chloe Lanier is an American actress. She is known for playing the villainous Nelle Benson on the ABC soap opera General Hospital,[1][2] for which she was nominated for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series in 2017, winning that award the following year and again being nominated in 2019.
Career
Lanier started her acting career in 2009 by starring in a movie called The Effects of Tragedy as Lisa. In 2012, she had joined the cast of Army Wives in the recurring role of Penny. In 2014, she guest-starred in an episode of NCIS as Emma Carter and appeared in a film, North Blvd, as Young Elaine.
In 2015, she appeared in two episodes of General Hospital as Young Patricia Spencer for the 52nd anniversary storyline.[3][4] Lanier dished about her Young Patricia Spencer audition being very secretive, she had her part marked as "Girl No.2" which made her think the role was a background one, but to her surprise after she read the character description, she was impressed having a major change of heart and decided to go for it after her boyfriend convinced her to.[5] In the same year, she guest-starred in Stalker as Sage. General Hospital were planning to cast another actress to portray the role of Nelle Benson, since Lanier was busy with another TV show (Kingdom) at that time, but Laura Wright and Frank Valentini were adamant that if anyone should be playing Nelle it should be Lanier, so the storyline was put on hold for her.[6] In 2016, she returned to General Hospital, but this time in a brand new contract role of Nelle Hayes.[7] She debuted on August 8, 2016.
In November 2016, she had booked an independent film, Gorman, also titled Quail Lake, where she plays the lead role of Brittany. Lanier departed her role as Nelle in August 2018, but made several guest appearances later that year.[8] She reprised the role of Nelle Benson the week of June 10, 2019, on General Hospital.[9] She has been on recurring status with the soap since then.
Personal life
Lanier has been in a relationship with actor Morgan McClellan since 2014. Before she portrayed Nelle on General Hospital, Chloe worked as a respite caregiver for children with Autism. In March 2020, she contracted COVID-19.[10]
