:::Also, is there any way we can use the publicity photo from ABC for Carla's marriage to Ed? It is published [https://www.soapoperadigest.com/photos/five-things-that-happened-on-october-5-in-soap-history2/ here]. I was reading the non-free content rationales and it seems like it would fit, especially considering the Carla photo is also from an ABC publicity photo (one where she's talking to Ed Hall, I've seen it before). Hi again! It's been nearly a month and I've consulted even more interviews and other sources. I think I've filled in most of the gaps behind the scenes...next would ideally be an overhaul of her storyline section, but it's harder to find descriptions of storylines from those days. Doesn't mean I won't try though! Let me know what you think! Ellen Holly was definitely a pistol! WP:AFC Helper News
Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Cheers, Primefac, via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:00, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
Carla Gray
Hello! I am editing anonymously but I used to edit Wikipedia heavily in the 2000s (I was even an admin!). For Black History Month I decided to improve the Carla Gray article, adding quotes and sources and reading/listening to interviews. I'd love to know what you think! (It's been a while so I may not be the best at formatting sources into the wikimarkup.) 173.171.68.179 (talk) 15:50, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- I also noticed the ENTIRE STORYLINE wasn't even mentioned in One Life to Live storylines (1968–1979)! I fixed that! :) 173.171.68.179 (talk) 17:07, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- @173.171.68.179: Hey there, I took a quick look and Carla Gray looks great! Thanks for the research, these topics are so important and I'm so glad Black History Month inspired you. When I have a chance I'll go over it, and try to link more articles to it.— TAnthonyTalk 19:10, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- I added some extra statistics for the article as well, such as:

- Carla became the first non-white lead character to be featured in a front-burning, sustained storyline for several years on a soap opera.[6] To that end, One Life to Live became the most-watched daytime soap opera among African Americans,[7] followed closely behind by All My Children, also created by Agnes Nixon, the only other soap opera at the time to focus consistently on providing storylines for black characters.[7] By the 1980s, it was estimated that 12% of all African American households watched soap operas,[13] twice the rate of white households,[13] for which actress Ellen Holly was given partial credit.[13]
- and Ellen Holly's primary role on One Life to Live paved the way for more Black actors and actresses to be given prominent storylines on other daytime soaps. In 1968, the year Holly debuted on One Life to Live, only three Black actors were featured in a recurring status or higher on U.S. daytime soap operas;[13] that number would increase to 25 by 1982,[13] with Al Freeman, Jr., who played Carla's husband Ed Hall, becoming the first Black man to win a Daytime Emmy Award in a leading category in 1979.[13]
- and also Unfortunately, Holly depicts a backstage story that diverges far from the ideal storyline shown on air. She claims that despite Carla Gray's storylines being major reasons for the series' early success (with One Life to Live having the highest number of non-white viewers),[7] she faced racist attitudes behind the camera. These included being paid less than white actresses on the program[6] ($300 per week in 1968-69, rising to only $325 per week in 1969-70 and $350 per week in 1970-71)[15] and returning from a nephew's funeral only to find that in the elapsed time, her dressing room was given away to a white actress,[6] both examples contributing to Holly's decision to step away from One Life to Live in December 1980.[6] 173.171.68.179 (talk) 13:13, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
