A new FL contest
Wikipedia's epic FL directors Matthewedwards and Scorpion0422 have decided to try another FL contest as a follow up to the one held last June. As you entered the first contest, you may be interested in taking a look at the new one, which will have different rules. Although they are still being fiddled with, three FLs in different topics will be required this time around. For more information, see here. Thanks for the time, Scorpion0422 15:51, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

A testament to your commitment to NPOV, but is Ed of the head (Simon) or Eddie/Binman still active on the message boards? Can we track through them or the current site the evidence that would comprise a valid claim to notability, or would your position be that fanzines are not noteworthy per se? Interview! A newish site, and it could be quite handy for me. Bizarrely they barely ask anything about Gillingham, but there's a good amount of stuff that can be cited there. Thought I'd send it to you rather than add the information myself, as I find that I rarely get round to doing stuff like this! Regards, HornetMike (talk) 18:45, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:MargateFC.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:MargateFC.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:18, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Sandhursttown.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Sandhursttown.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Shared IP?
Hi. I think that 83.100.221.38 may in fact be a shared IP of somesort as I was not editing on the 1st of October when some vandalism occured with this IP as a source. I previously thought the IP was assigned only to the PC that I'm currently using. Is there a way to check in more detail as I really don't want some idiot vandal besmirching any decent contributions I may make. Thanks. Jasynnash2 (talk) 14:56, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Joe Wilson
I am currently working on creating Joe Wilson (footballer) at the top of my Sandbox, which I'm planning as a DYK as he scored Albion's first ever league goal. I noticed though that you have a different redlinked Joe Wilson in your GFC players < 50apps list. Do you know "your" Joe Wilson's year of birth, and do you think further disambiguation is necessary? I just thought it would save a potential page move further down the line if we can agree on what the article titles are likely to be before creating them. Cheers. --Jameboy (talk) 14:00, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. The following text from the Mike Collett book might contain something of interest:
The match was due to kickoff at 3pm, and by 1.45pm the doors were shut with more than 126,000 people inside. But still they came... swarming over railings, scaling walls and climbing over the little turnstile barriers. At 2 o’clock police stations for miles around were being mobilised, but by the time those police reinforcements arrived, they could hardly do anything to stop the chaos or flow of people into the stadium. Never before have so many people ever turned up to see a match. There were anywhere between 200,000 and 250,000 inside Wembley – and probably as many outside.
And while the stadium was being over-run, tens of thousands more people were still arriving. The roads for miles around were jammed solid and the Bolton team were forced to abandon their coach a mile away and push and shove their way into the stadium.[1]
Billy was not the only horse in Wembley, but he was the only white one, and that was the crucial factor. Ridden by PC George Scorey he began gradually moving the crowd back around the touchlines.
It was a slow process, but the crowd responded and inch by inch the playing area was cleared. A few years later PC Scorey explained in an interview to the BBC how he had managed it:
“As my horse picked his way onto the field, I saw nothing but a sea of heads. I thought, ‘We can’t do it. It’s impossible.’ But I happened to see an opening near one of the goals and the horse was very good – easing them back with his nose and tail until we got a goal-line cleared. I told them in front to join hands and heave and they went back step by step until we reached the line. Then they sat down and we went on like that... it was mainly due to the horse. Perhaps because he was white he commanded more attention. But more than that, he seemed to understand what was required of him. The other helpful thing was the good nature of the crowd.”
Officials also publicly stated that if it had not been for PC Scorey and the white horse, the final would never have gone ahead that afternoon. But PC Scorey, who lived to be 82, was not a football fan. Thirty years after he saved the cup final he admitted, “I never went to another game in my life”.[2]
As you can see, Collett refers to the horse as "Billy" rather than "Billie", as does the other book, by Lloyd & Holt.
Can I also comment on the dates in your references: I believe that editors are now encouraged to look at an article through the eyes of a non-registered user (who form the majority of WP users) – as they are unable to express their date preferences, they see dates in articles as they are typed. Try turning off your date preferences temporarily and you may see the problem, especially with the date of the match in the "Details" section which appears as "1923-04-28" rather than "28 April 1923".
Likewise, in the "citeweb" references, the dates appear (using ref #40 as an example) as "(2007-09-28). Retrieved on 2008-10-15". If you replace the "|accessdate=2008-10-15|date=[[2007-09-28]]" with "|accessdate=15 October| accessyear=2008|date=28 September 2007" the dates will then appear as "15 October 2008" and "28 September 2007" regardless of your date preferences.
I hope this is of some help. Cheers. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 04:58, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:TamworthFC.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:TamworthFC.jpg.
Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:13, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Anfield Online
re: your listing here. Apologies for listing it wrong the first time, but I figured if it got to the football deletion sorting, someone (i.e. you in this case :) ) would know what to do with it. StarM 13:10, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Peter Stringfellow (not the dodgy lothario)
In Wallace, Dave (2007). Century City – Manchester City Football Club 1957/58. Leigh: King of the Kippax. p. 216. ISBN 978-0-9557056-0-1., Peter Stringfellow is included in a list of players who were on the books at City that season but didn't make the first team. Unfortunately there's no further detail, but given that he joined nearby Oldham in 1958 it must be the same player. Oldelpaso (talk) 18:24, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
1923 and all that
I've tweaked that section in 1956 to get the match rules in the middle below the kits, please feel free to copy if you think it'd be an improvement. Though yours is fine as it is, and I've said so at FAC. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:52, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
1923 shirt numbers
I knew about the shirt numbers, but this head cold seems to have addled my brain. I'll have another read-through and hopefully it will be a support. --Jameboy (talk) 14:18, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- You want to nip that boinging behaviour in the bud, he'll thank you for it when he's older. Congrats on the Featured Article, sorry I was a bit too slow in adding my support. I was just about to add a couple of comments when I noticed the star had been added. My comments anyway:
- Title and lead has "1923 FA Cup Final", but infobox has "1923 FA Cup final"
- Build-up section (2nd paragraph): WP:MOSTIME says that the colon, rather than the full stop should be used as a time separator. Also "1.00 pm." has a rogue full stop after it.
- Should "the F.A.'s share" be " the FA's share" ? (no dots)
- Cheers, --Jameboy (talk) 23:08, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- OK, so it's academic but... Support. Very good work indeed - when are you starting on 1924 FA Cup Final then? :-) I think genetics overrides geography so the lad should really be a Gill (are your female fans Gillettes btw?) --Jameboy (talk) 13:00, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
FAC submissions
Just a note, please be sure to submit FACs via the {{fac}} template on the talk page, so the bot doesn't stall on closing.[1] [2] Congratulations on the FA! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:47, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Cup Final articles
Congratulations on your star!! An FAC reviewer has not unreasonably pointed out that the match details section for 1956 has no references (oops :-) Do you still have access to the book source you used, and if so, does it happen to have a corresponding page covering the 1956 details? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:00, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- thanks, Struway2 (talk) 10:08, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- brilliant, thanks again, Struway2 (talk) 18:24, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- the little bracketed number floating between the little pictures points to Historical Kits, a thoroughly respectable and reliable source for pictures of football kits :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 18:49, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- PS. what is the ref's home town, and I'll add it, Struway2 (talk) 18:50, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the support !! cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:11, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- List's fine, I'll have another quick look at it in a bit, and expect to support unless I find anything awful then... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:56, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- Have now supported, with one comment for consideration. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:52, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

FYI - Megrashvili's cup match for Kiryat Shmona was when they were in the second tier, which is possibly not fully pro. пﮟოьεԻ 57 16:32, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
Your comments on Pornbio
Pornbio is actually one of the hardest standards to meet percentage wise, because it pretty much comes down to award history or overwhelmingly passing general at afd. It eliminates a lot more articles than it keeps, and if it goes away as a separate criteria, they get folded under Entertainer. I'm far from the only person on the project who wants to avoid that because almost every porn performer can get there.
You disapprove of porn, I hate soccer. Let's both be tolerant of each others distasteful amusements shall we? Horrorshowj (talk) 03:32, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
