Origins of the concept?

In a quick search, I find references to this term as early as 1988. It likely goes even earlier. As such, this article in present form is a start, but perhaps not a very accurate, and certainly not a very complete one. DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 02:31, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The German origin of mediatization can be traced to Ernest Manheim (1933), according to Averbeck-Lietz (2014). I can verify that the word Mediatisierung occurs once in Manheim (1933), but I cannot verify the existence of an English translation mentioned by Averbeck-Lietz. The topic is mentioned in English translations of Manheim's works, but not the word mediatization. Agnerf (talk) 14:23, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The reference to Kent Asp (2010) is missing in the concept chapter. Agnerf 14:23, 3 September 2021 (UTC).[reply]

I found it. It was a German handbook citing a Danish article citing a Swedish book! (Handbuch Verbandskommunikation 2010 p. 336; Hjarvard: The mediatization of society, 2008; Asp 1986). I will certainly revise this section. Agnerf (talk) 06:09, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Major rewrite, October 2021

I have rewritten and expanded this article, which was listed as "Start-Class" quality. Most of the text is completely rewritten. Only the sections "Materialist", "Physical resources" and "Subcultures" contain mainly text from the old version of this article, though abbreviated.

The article reviews the interaction between mass media and other sectors of society. There is hardly any limit to the number of topics that could be discussed under this heading, but I have limited the article to topics that have been the subjects of major focus by mediatization theorists.

"Mediatization" research is a paradigm under development. This paradigm is likely to be extended and reshaped in the future. I have tried to include the latest literature in order to bring the article up to date. Agnerf (talk) 09:21, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
