John Edward Brown (13 July 1931[1] – 23 October 2011)[2] was the third Bishop in Cyprus and the Gulf.[3] Educated at Wintringham Grammar School, Grimsby and Kelham Theological College he was ordained in 1956 and began what was to be a long association with the Middle East by becoming a curate at St. George's Cathedral, Jerusalem and master at the attached school.[4] Returning to England he became a Curate in Reading before 4 years missionary work in Sudan. Back in England he was Vicar of Stewkley, then Rural Dean of Sonning.[5] From 1978 until 1986 he was Archdeacon of Berkshire before elevation to the Episcopacy. He served the Church in the Mediterranean for 8 years before retirement to his hometown.[6]
