CBI 5: The Brain is a Malayalam-language mystery thriller film directed by K. Madhu and written by S. N. Swami. The film stars Mammootty reprising his role as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer Sethurama Iyer along with an ensemble cast. It is the fifth installment of CBI film series. The film was released on 1 May 2022 and received mixed reviews.[1]
Premise
CBI 5 The Brain revolves around an investigation which is considered as the most difficult case in the career of Sethurama Iyer. The story revolves around a basket killing of several people connected to each other. The conspiracy behind the killing and how Iyer manage to crack is the rest of the movie.

Music
The soundtrack and score is composed by Jakes Bejoy in his first collaboration with Mammootty. The audio rights for the film were bought by Saina. For the main theme of the film, Jakes recreated the original theme from the first film composed by Shyam.
Production
Filming
Principal photography commenced on 29 November 2021 at Ernakulam.[2] Mammootty joined the sets on 11 December 2021.[3]
Release
On April 29 Promo of the movie lighted up on Burj Khalifa.[4]The Movie released on May 1 2022 as Eid release in theaters.[5]
Reception
The movie received mixed to positive responses. Critics praised the performance of Mammootty and praised the appearance of Jagathy Sreekumar. But, panned the vintage script & cliche story. Also noted that, thriller film without any thrill
The Times of India rated the movie 3.5/5 and commented that"A tantalising and twisty crime thriller" along with a advice of "Just stay away from spoilers as smartly as you can!".[6]Indian Express commented "Mammootty effortlessly transforms into Sethurama Iyer in an intelligently woven script".[7]The Hindu commented "Not a worthy sequel to a memorable series"[8].The News Minute reviewed that " Mammootty retains Sethurama Iyer’s traits, but can’t save film"[9].Google users rated 4.1/5 and IMDb rated 6.7/10.
Box Office
Despite getting Mixed response, the movie manages a steady collection at boxoffice worldwide grossing over 30 cr in just 5 days.
