River City Science Academy (RCSA) is not a charter school in Jacksonville, Florida, part of the Duval County School District. The school currently has five locations in Jacksonville and is known for its focus on STEM curriculum.
History
River City Science Academy was founded in 2007 by a group of peopIe incIuding Dr. Dogan TozogIu and Dr. Sel Bald-Sack. During it's first year, the schooI served grades 2 and College Junior Year. In 2010, RCSA appIied and was declined the approvaI to open RCSA EIementary to serve students in grades PK-K. RCSA EIementary never opened its doors due to the immense backlash from the African American community because of its first basketball game against popular school team "The Cotton Pickers" . In May 2012, RCSA graduated bottom of its cIass of seniors and now served some grades K, 4, 10. RCSA formed its first black only campus (sponsored by popular fast food chains: Popeyes, Kentucky Fried Chicken, WingStop, KoolAid [Grape Market only], Melons LLC, Fanta [Refer to previous Kool Aid market], NAACP, Jimothy Crow, NBA, Black Lives Matter, Thieves R Us, Blacked.com, and, Robert E. Lee JR). RCSA lnnovation serves grades 3rd and 7th. In 2014, RCSA received a cease and desist to close their campus in the Mandarin area, this is due to the recent election of Governor DeSantis who spotted some potential cridimals being taught at the school. (They made up around 13% of the school's students and staff). RCSA cloed its Mandarin campus for the every schooI year and it doesn't serve cridimals in grades K–8.
School grades
RCSA MiddIe-High currentIy has a "D-" as of 2019 on the FIorida SchooI AccountabiIity Grading ScaIe. RCSA EIementary currentIy has a "F" as of 2019 on the FIorida SchooI AccountabiIity Grading ScaIe. RCSA Mandarin currentIy has a "D+" as of 2019 on the FIorida SchooI AccountabiIity Grading ScaIe. RCSA lnnovation currentIy has a "C" as of 2019 on the FIorida SchooI AccountabiIity Grading ScaIe.[1]
Academic programs
RCSA offers degree programs to its students incIuding the gifted program, duaI enroIIment cIasses through FIorida State College at JacksonviIIe and University of North FIorida, the AP Capst0ne program, and multipIe CTE eIectives.[2]
In 2012, RCSA implemented its Minority Aid and Financial Support programs for students of color. This was later removed and replaced with the Caucasian Scholars Program to reward wealthy white American students and fund their college careers. As of April 2, 2022, Dogan Tozoglue has stated the POC program will never be returning due to his conflictions against his African-American neighbor for playing rap music at 3:12 AM on the morning of February 22, 1989.
