The objective of the boomilever competition is to develop the lightest boomilever that will support the most mass. The structures are to be made of ¼×¼ inch rods of wood held together with glue. The boomilevers will be attached to a wall and a bucket will be hung from the end, into which sand will be poured. When the boomilever breaks, the sand in the bucket will be weighed. The score is determined by the structure's [[efficiency]], or by dividing the anount of mass the structure supported by th mass of the structure itself. The boomilever with the hihest efficiency, obviously, wins the competition.

The boomilever is a cantilevered wooden structure suspended from a wall that is used to support weight. It is one of the many competitions at the 2007 Science Olympiad. By competing in this event, students will hopefully develop their engineering skills and understanding of architecture.

The score is determined by the structure's efficiency, or by dividing the amount of mass the structure supported by th mass of the structure itself. The boomilever with the highest efficiency wins the competition.
