Thomas Haney Secondary School is a public high school in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, under the authority of School District 42 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. Athletic organizations within the school are known as the Thomas Haney Thunder.

Clubs

School clubs include the Model United Nations Club, an ice hockey program, the Student Council, the Gardening Club and the eSports team.[citation needed] The Model United Nations club allows students to partake in numerous United Nations simulations across the year. Several Thomas Haney students were award winners.[2] There was a Swim Club, however it was defunct as of 2018. This makes it unique, as it is the only public school in British Columbia to include a pool. The eSports team is run by Mark Biggar and Todd Goodman. The two teachers, along with an arsenal of students, host a LARP (Live Action Role Play) at the school annually.[3]

Controversy

The school includes an aquatic facility as it originally shared campus with Douglas College, who requested the secondary students not be permitted into the pool, which resulted in rumours that the pool did not exist. After the departure of Douglas College, pool usage was limited to staff and swim team members. Former swim coach Garth Merman attempted to end the debate by posting photo evidence, however was met with doubt, with many saying it was the result of photoshop. The controversial photo has been posted and reposted several times over the years.
