Folk Radio UK, is an online Folk music Journal which has a strong focus on artists and musicians from Britain and Ireland. This includes Contemporary and Tradtional Folk Music from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales alongside folk & roots music from the North America and across the globe. Established in 2004 by Alex Gallacher.[1] the current website features Album Reviews, News, Live Reviews and Interviews. They are based in Somerset,[2][1] but supported by a team of reviewers from within and outside of the UK.[3]

Articles are supplemented by mixes and shows including a regular Folk Show series.[4] A specialist folk music channel was launched on Deezer in 2012 which was curated by Folk Radio UK's Editor.[5][6] In addition to their regular Folk Show they also curate Folk music Playlists on Apple Music and Spotify - "A number of the playlists are updated weekly to introduce new releases as well as music from the past...Others gather together themes or collections such as The Voice of the PeopleTopic Records’ widely-acclaimed and seminal traditional folk music series, the playlist includes the entire 30 volumes released to date."[7]

Folk Radio UK was a finalist in the 2014 Scots Trad Music Awards in the "Trad Music in the Media Category".[8]

In July 2022 they began a "Traditional Folk Music and Song" series of articles that aims to take a closer look at Folk and Traditional Music over the ages. "As well as dipping into traditional folk songs from Britain, Ireland and further afield, it will also look at some of the key players alongside memorable events that shaped the future of Folk Music."[9]
