The Elster Valley Bridge Pirk is one of the most unusual motorway bridges in Germany. the building of this bridge began in 1937. Construction was stopped in 1940 because of the Second World War. Since this bridge lay in the restricted area of the GDR, construction was not restarted until 1990. In June 1990 preliminary investigations began, and finally in September 1990 the building of the bridge began. In August 1993 the bridge was openned to traffic. Federal Motorway 72 now flows over the bridge. The Elstertalbruecke Pirk spans the white elster. It has brick columns. It has a length of 503.5 m and possesses 14 columns with span widths between 17 meters and 38.5 meters.
