AMBS Manila, Channel 2 (analog) and Channel 16 (digital), will be an upcoming TV station owned and operated by Advanced Media Broadcasting System. Its broadcast facilities and transmitter are located at the Starmalls EDSA Complex, EDSA corner Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City. This station is currently under test broadcast.
History
In 2019, Advanced Media Broadcasting System (AMBS) was granted a 25-year legislative franchise extension under Republic Act 11253 albeit without President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's signature as the bill lapsed into law after 30 days of inaction.[1][2] The Vera family and AMBS president Andrew Santiago sold AMBS to Planet Cable of real estate magnate and businessman-politician Manny Villar.[3][4]
On January 5, 2022, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) awarded the frequencies of channels 2 and 16 to AMBS. It was given a provisional authority to operate under 18 months until the analog shut-off of the country in 2023.[5] These channels were previously used by ABS-CBN under the callsign DWWX-TV. The ABS-CBN network was shut down on May 5, 2020 due to the cease and desist order from the NTC after the Congress failed to renew its franchise.[6]
In June 2022, AMBS Manila began its test broadcast[7] and will make its official launch on October 1, 2022 with plans to expanding it nationwide by the end of the year as announced by Willie Revillame.[8] On July 15, 2022, during his contract signing with AMBS, Revillame announced that his variety show Wowowin is set to return on AMBS since its final broadcast on GMA Network on February 11, 2022.[9]
