please check out Reliable sources and Referencing for beginners. especially the former. I know it's not a short read, but reliable sources form the building block of everything you write in wikipedia articles.

• Can you make me an article for X?

I don't make articles, sorry! however you can! just check out the guidelines at Your first article, and also go over through the Notability and Reliable sources guidelines (both are essential!) and the Simplified Manual of Style. if you want, I can help with your draft through copyreading and making it comply with these policies, however you'll still have to add sources and stuff. also note that making an article is very hard (but not impossible) for newcomers given the difficulty in determining which sources you can use as well as the truckload of reading material, so you might want to start with easier tasks first.

• So if not make a new article, what easy stuff can I do as a beginner?

great question! I'd suggest checking out the Task center and your Homepage tab for this. in particular, copyediting is easy as long as you've got a good grasp of English grammar (and know the difference between British and American English and know not to change them when not necessary).

• You haven't responded in a while. Where may I get an answer?

if I've been inactive in a while, please check out the Teahouse. it's a great place to ask questions, and once in a while I may pop in as well to help there.

• How do you revert fast?

Recent Changes and Ultraviolet are my friends. they're great.

sorry, I can't! millions of people use Wikipedia as a serious research tool so we have to keep our stuff clean and avoid misleading our audience. however instead of saving your changes, you could make a mock edit by placing your changes, but pressing Show preview instead of Publish changes and then taking a snip of the preview to show to your friends!

great/bad for them! unfortunately, Wikipedia has to remain neutral at all times, which includes not saying that something is the best/the worst/other opinions unless said opinions are made by lots of sources and outlets, and even then it would be X is regarded by many as great/bad/etc and not X is great/bad/etc.

• I am/know the person the article is about. Why are my stuff removed?

you may have a conflict of interest with the article, which could make it difficult for you to edit neutrally. you can still edit, however unless it's for minor stuff like typo fixes, it's better for you to discuss stuff at the relevant article's talk page first.

• Why are you reverting the truth/reinstating false information?

Verifiability, not truth. truth itself is messy and relative, so what is true to one may not be true to another, so defining a singular truth to add is impossible. additionally, having sources allows anyone to see for themselves whether what we claim in an article is true or not. that goes the same way for false information: unless sources say that the claim/s made are false, it would be disruptive to remove them without getting consensus from the talk page first.

• What pronouns do you use?

I use any! I don't mind you using he, she, or they. thanks for asking!

• How'd you make your fancy signature?

a bit of CSS trickery! you can use   Treat the above as wikimarkup and some <span> to apply CSS to your sig, which allows you to do stuff like signatures with backgrounds (color), round signatures (border-radius), and whatever'll fit in the 255-char limit.

Hello! I just read your history of the Pieta in the Vatican. We visited the Vatican in the late 60's and well before the sculpture was vandalized. Back then it was unprotected and visitors could RUB Jesus' foot. The top of his foot was worn almost smooth from millions of hands through the centuries. I rubbed Jesus's foot on the Pieta. I feel this should be mentioned in this article but I have no link to support this. --Hoymate (talk) 02:19, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

hi @Supa The Barber and welcome to wikipedia! are you planning to create a page about yourself? if that's so, unfortunately it's best if you avoid that. as ScottishFinnishRadish has stated on your talk page, autobiographies are discouraged as it is hard to make one that will also fit in Wikipedia's policies, namely Neutral point of view, plus it's also a conflict of interest since you are the subject. if people believe you deserve an article, they will make one of you, but only once you have met the notability standards (in this case, of people) which everything has to meet before getting an article, however do note that there are reasons to not want an article.

if you want to write an article about something else, ideally something you know a lot about but are not personally connected with, you can by reading Your first article, stocking up on Reliable sources (also read that! it's important), and analyzing whether they meet the notability criteria for their field. happy editing! 💜  melecie  talk - 06:01, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

hi IAhmed! first question, is your editor in chief notable? I suggest avoiding making a page altogether since you're connected to them and that counts as a conflict of interest at the very least, although if you still want to continue forward then check whether they meet the notability criteria: that decides whether your subject can have an article.

Hi, I'm having an issue where when I'm editing Wikipedia on my phone via Google Chrome as I'm attempting to make an edit to a certain part of a paragraph of an article although my cursor stays in the correct place as I attempt to type, the text I am typing appears at the top of the paragraph rather than in the right place. Is this an issue you are aware of? Is there a way to get around/solve it? Or is it just something you have to deal with if you choose to edit on a phone? I'm about to create a new article. What's the best way to start -- create entry in external text editor with appropriate tags (I'm familiar with using tag markup in other contexts so am comfortable learning Wikipedia's tag set) and upload the article, or using native Wikipedia WYSIWYG editor I saw mentioned? hi Usualtalk! it depends on how you prefer to work. I usually use the built-in source editor, which allows me to press preview in the wiki instead of having to move it from my text editor to wikipedia before checking what the page looks like. source also gives you the exact code in an article, which if you're used to doing stuff with programming or markup languages can be useful.

I don't have much experience with VisualEditor although that's not a bad place to start since it allows you to see what exactly are you doing and editing while you're still getting the hang of how the site works (instead of having to cross reference each template and how they work, you can instead see what those templates look like and what variables can be added by just clicking on them). happy editing! 💜  melecie  talk - 03:12, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
