I am currently excited about the idea of building a Wiki textbook site where people can develop textbooks collabaratively. Right now, if you go to college you may spend (as I did) $500/semester on books that present material that is in the public domain! Intro to chemistry has not changed appreciably in decades and my organic chem book would be better as a linked-up hypertext than a hard copy anyways. Lets let the open source community be the first to make this happen. The costs associated with education further the digital divide, keeping the disadvantaged where they are. Dont expect the textbook companies to jump on this tho cuz obviously free online textbooks will take away their livelihood .. but if we have the knowledge lets share it in an approachable way so as many people can benefit from it. |

I am currently excited about the idea of building a Wiki textbook site where people can develop textbooks collabaratively ( http://textbook.wikipedia.org ).
A current project for me is my physics book that I am compiling.
