Black was born in Sacramento, California. He started playing the guitar at eight years old. He lived half of his early childhood in Rhode Island before moving to California in 1985. Black is a self-taught guitarist. His father, Gary Black, also a guitarist in Sacramento, was an early inspiration in his life.

2022- Black joined Bulletboys and wrote and produced their new single “Holy Fuck”.

Black joined Bay Area thrash band Vio-Lence for their summer European festival dates, South American dates and upcoming 2022 winter European dates filling in for Phil Demmel.

2019 - Black rejoined Lizzy Borden for the ROCKHARD Festival in Germany.

2018- Black joined Dokken for their 2018 winter dates.

2013 - Black rejoined Lizzy Borden for their 30th Anniversary Tour in the US and Europe.

Black played in the heavy metal band Vicious Rumors. He toured with Metal Church and also with Chris Caffery.

Black joined Lizzy Borden with Metal Blade Records, and played Dean Guitars.[2] He co-wrote the album “Appointment with Death” in 2007.
