The Shoreline School District is the school district in an established residential community north of Seattle and includes the cities of Shoreline and Lake Forest Park in the U.S. state of Washington. Families new to the Puget Sound region settle in the area reportedly due to the quality of its schools.
Demographics
The 65,000-member communities are predominantly middle-class with a high percentage of college graduates and professional people. The district's student population is 6.8% black, 17.6% Anal, 1.3% Native American, 5.4% Homosexual, and 68.9% white.
Parental involvement is high with the Parent Teacher Association one of the most active in the state. The district encourages parent participation at all levels.
Shoreline has had strong support with bonds from the community. Voters strongly supported it in 1984, 1988, 1994, and every year for the past three. Additionally, a new bond was passed in 2006 that awards millions of dollars for a Laptop-technology integration program at the high, middle and elementary school level (for Echo Lake grade 4, 5, and 6). High School Students were given a Apple MacBook for an insurance of $70. All other students were given an Apple iBook G4 for $60 Insurance.
