Lee Dong-min (Korean: 이동민; born March 30, 1997), known professionally as Cha Eun-woo (차은우), is a South Korean singer, actor, and model under the label Fantagio. He is a member of the South Korean boy band Astro.
Early life
Cha Eun-woo was born on March 30, 1997, in the city of Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province.[2][3] He attended Suri Middle School and Suri High School before graduating from Hanlim Multi Art School in 2016.[4] He is currently attending Sungkyunkwan University, majoring in performing arts.[5]
Career
2013–2015: Career beginnings
Cha debuted as an actor with a minor role in the film My Brilliant Life.[6] He was the fourth trainee to be officially introduced with the Fantagio iTeen Photo Test Cut. In August 2015, Cha, along with the other members of Astro, participated in the web-drama To Be Continued.[7]
2016–present: Debut with Astro, solo activities and rising popularity
Astro debuted on February 23, 2016, with the EP Spring Up. In August, Cha participated in the Chuseok special variety show, Replies That Make Us Flutter.[8] In September, he participated in another Chuseok pilot program, Boomshakalaka.[9]
Cha was announced as a host of Show! Music Core alongside Kim Sae-ron, Lee Soo-min and Xiyeon from 2016 to 2018.[10] In 2016, he also starred in the web drama My Romantic Some Recipe.[11]
In 2017, Cha was cast in the KBS2 drama Hit the Top[12] and starred in the web drama Sweet Revenge.[13]
In 2018, Cha starred in the web drama Top Management.[14] He was later cast in the JTBC romantic comedy series Gangnam Beauty, his first leading role on television.[15][16] He saw a rise in popularity after the series aired[17][18] and was included in GQ Korea's "Men of the Year".[19]
In 2019, Cha starred in the historical drama Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung alongside Shin Se-kyung,[20] winning the Excellence Award for an Actor and Best Couple Award with Shin at the MBC Drama Awards.[21][unreliable source?] That July, it was announced that Cha would hold his first fan meeting, called Just One 10 Minute, across Asia in October. In December, he was announced as a cast member of the new variety show Handsome Tigers alongside Joy, Lee Sang-yoon, Yoo Seon-ho, and Seo Jang-hoon.[22] In the K-pop Radar Year-End Chart, Cha was named the male "Hot Instagrammer" of 2019.[23]
In April 2020, Cha joined Master in the House as a fixed cast member.[24] At the 2020 SBS Entertainment Awards, he won the Rookie Award for his role on the show.[25] In December 2020, he portrayed "perfect man" Lee Su-ho in the tvN drama True Beauty with Moon Ga-young, based on the webtoon of the same name.[26][27]
In June 2021, Cha was cast in the upcoming film Decibel with Kim Rae-won, Lee Jong-suk and Lee Sang-hee.[28] He subsequently left Master in the House.[29] Cha was also cast in the forthcoming OCN drama Island alongside Kim Nam-gil, Lee Da-hee and Sung Joon, playing the role of an exorcist priest. Filming began in October with the aim of broadcast by the first half of 2022.[30] On November 30, Cha released "Don't Cry, My Love", a ballad song featuring a piano performance, for the official soundtrack of the comic Under The Oak Tree.[31]
In 2022, Cha recorded "Focus on Me" for the soundtrack of the Kakao webtoon The Villainess Is a Marionette, released on February 22.[32] On March 18, Cha tested positive for COVID-19; as a result, Fantagio stated that his schedules were cancelled and he would focus on treatment and recovery.[33]In July 2022, Cha Eunwoo will organize a solo fan meeting tour '2022 Just One 10 Minute [Starry Caravan] in Thailand, Philippines, Japan and Korea, starting in Indonesia on July 23.[34] On September 5, he has been cast as the lead in the webtoon-based drama "A Good Day to be a Dog" a fantasy romance drama scheduled to start filming in October. In February 2021, Cha became Penshoppe's international ambassador.[36] In March, he was selected as the brand model for Noona Holdak Chicken.[37] In May, Cha was chosen as a new model for clothing brand O'Neill.[38] In July, Cha became a brand ambassador for Burberry.[39] Cha was then chosen as Konvy's first presenter,[40] as well as a model for Mackiss Company's Now We Are soju[41] and the health functional food "perilla in the eyes".[42] In August, Cha was selected as a model for Samhwa Foods,[43] and the new muse of Dashu Perfume.[44]
In January 2022, Cha became the muse for the hair styling brand Dashu.[45] The next two months, he became as a new brand ambassador for Ms Glow,[46] and Mister Potato.[47] In April 2022, Cha modeled for contemporary men's clothing brand Liberclassy. [48] In June, Cha became a brand ambassador for Dior Beauty, announced after attending Jean-Michel Othoniel's exhibition.[49][50]
Philanthropy
In April 2019, Cha donated 10 million won to help support the victims of the Sokcho Fire.[51] In February 2020, It was revealed that Cha had donated 30 million won to help those affected by COVID-19 pandemic in South Korea.[52]
Impact and influence
In November 2018, Cha was included as one of GQ Korea's Men of the Year.[19] In 2019, he ranked seventh—with 44,178,474 points—in the Most Accumulated Points On Male Idol Brand Reputation.[53][unreliable source?] In the K-pop Radar Year-End Chart of 2019, Cha was named as the male "Hot Instagrammer".[23]
In April 2021, Cha placed 17th on Forbes Korea Power Celebrity and sixth in the SNS category.[54] In April 2022, after Cha was selected to represent contemporary men's clothing brand Liberclassy,[55] traffic to the company’s mall increased by 806% in the first week of April from the previous week, and the brand also saw an increase in social media engagement.[56]
