Ruggero Maria Santilli (1935) is an Italian and U.S. scientist. He was a Nobel Prize nominee for Chemistry in 1985.[1]
Early career
Originally from the Italian region of Molise, Santilli studied physics at the University of Naples and went on to attend the Graduate School in Physics of the University of Turin, graduating in 1966.[2]
In 1967 he was invited by the University of Miami to conduct research under NASA financial support. In 1968, Santilli was a Associate Professor of Physics at Boston University teaching physics and mathematics, and conducted research for the United States Air Force. During his work for USAF, he became a U. S. Citizen.[2]
In 1976 and 1977 Santilli was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He then joined Harvard University in 1978, where he was co-principal investigator of United States Department of Energy (DOE) grants ER-78-S-02-47420.A000 and AS02-78ER04742.[2]
Research
In 1983 Santilli became the President of the newly-formed Institute for Basic Research, and Principal Investigator of DOE grants DE-ACO2-80ER10651, DE-ACO2-80ER-10651.A001, and DE-ACO2-80ER10651.A002.[2]
Santilli's research on magnecular has led to further research and commercialisation of clean fuels based on the technology.[2] MagneGas and MagneHydrogen are brand names of new fuels whose trademarks are owned by Hadronic Press, [3][4][5] of which his spouse Carla Santilli is the sole officer/director.[6]
Publications
Santilli is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Hadronic Journal, Hadronic Journal Supplement and Algebras, Groups and Geometries, all publications of Hadronic Press. He is also the editor of the International Journal of Physics, Journal of the Balkan Geometry Society, Journal of Alternative Energy and Ecology, Journal of Dynamical Systems and Geometric Theories, and others.[2]
In 1999 he established the International Committee for Scientific Ethics and Accountability to "oppose scientific frauds, plagiarisms, and deceptions," with explicit threats to sue anyone who "plagiarize, either in part or in full, a parametric deformation of lie theory, and of heisenberg equation in their infinitesimal and finite versions".[7]

Trivia
In August 1993, Prof. Santilli met with former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev[2].
