- Croatia will adopt the euro and become the 20th member state of the eurozone.[1] This will be the first enlargement of the monetary union since Lithuania's entry in 2015.
- Croatia will join Schengen and become the 27th member state of Europe's passport-free travel area. This will be the first enlargement of Europe's passport-free area since Liechtenstein's entry in 2011.
- Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will be sworn in as the next President of Brazil after defeating incumbent president Jair Bolsonaro in a runoff election that was held in Brazil on October 30, 2022.
- Uzbekistan's Latin alphabet transition will be complete.[2]
- January 10 – Extended Security Updates (ESU) program will no longer update Windows 7, extended support for Windows 8 & 8.1 & Windows RT ends, as well third year of ESU support for Windows Server 2008/R2 ends. Both will enter fourth year, which is available only for Azure Virtual Desktop users.
