Tharali is a tehsil (administrative division) in the Chamoli district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand.^[1] It is located on the banks of the Pindar river and is known for its picturesque location and scenic beauty.

The tehsil is one of the most populated in Chamoli and consists of more than 200 villages and towns, including the famous Gwaldam town. Located in the Pindar valley, this area was the border of Kumaun and Garhwal^[2] and is the home of Nanda Devi of Badhangarhi. It offers stunning views of the Nanda Devi and other Great Himalaya peaks. Due to its strategic location, the tehsil also hosts important SSB facility of CI & JW TC.

Tharali is also known for its rich natural resources, with forests covering a significant portion of the region. The tehsil is home to a number of wildlife species, including the Himalayan black bear, musk deer, and leopard.

The economy of Tharali is primarily agriculture-based, with the main crops being rice, wheat, and maize. The tehsil also has a proposed Devsari Hydro Power Plant of Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited.^[3]

Tourism is an important contributor to the economy of Tharali, with the region attracting a large number of visitors each year. The tehsil is home to a number of popular tourist destinations, and offers passage from the side of Kumaun for the Char Dham, the Kedarnath Temple, and the Nanda Devi National Park.

Tharali is well-connected to the rest of the state, with a number of roads and highways passing through the region. From the side of Garhwal,road from Karnaprayag to Bageshwar connects it. Nearby tourist attractions include Kausani and Bageshwar.^[4]
