Hoegaarden is a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium. The municipality comprises the towns of Hoegaarden proper, Meldert and Outgaarden. On January 1st, 2004 Hoegaarden had a total population of 6,059 (2,952 males and 3,107 females). The total area is 33.93 km² which gives a population density of 178.57 inhabitants per km².
Hoegaarden is home to Hoegaarden brewery, founded by Pierre Celis. Celis revived the witbier (wheat beer) tradition in 1966 when he created a beer with the traditional ingredients of water, yeast, wheat, hops, coriander and dried Curaçao orange peel.
