Mark Dearey is an elected member of Dundalk Town Council for the Irish Green Party. He was elected in 2004 for the Dundalk No. 1 district on his first attempt. He is the Green Party candidate at the 2007 general election in the Louth constituency.

Mark Dearey has been a Green Party Councillor since 2004 and in that period he has achieved considerable success both in his local constituency of Dundalk and with the party on a range of national issues. He first came to the public attention in Co. Louth in 1994 when he and three others from around the county, took a court action against British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL), to seek an end to reprocessing at Sellafield. That court action is still on going and the STAD group have continued to highlight the dangers of reprocessing nuclear fuel, the alternatives to reprocessing, and the lack of urgency of Government to make Ireland's case.
