Ultra Q is an American punk band based out of Oakland, California. They are best known for their singer Jakob Armstrong, son of Billie Joe Armstrong.
Background
Originally, Jakob Armstrong started as a solo act, under the name Jakob Danger, releasing a self-titled EP in 2015. In late 2016, brothers Chris and Enzo Malaspina joined, turning Jakob Danger into a band. Kevin Judd joined a couple of months later to complete the lineup, and in early 2017, they renamed themselves to Mt. Eddy.
They then released two singles, Metaphor and Working Title, before releasing their debut album Chroma on June 2, 2017. The next year, they released their self-titled EP on March 13, 2018.
On October 26, 2018, the band posted to their Instagram page, announcing a break. They wanted to take a year off to "figure out the direction [they] want [their] music to go".
The band would return on April 9, 2019, under the new name Ultra Q, and would release their debut single under this name, Redwood, on April 23, 2019. They would then release another single, Gool, on June 20, 2019, before finally releasing their first EP under the name Ultra Q, We're Starting to Get Along.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the band would work purely online to record new material, eventually releasing the EP In a Cave in a Video Game.
In 2021, two singles, Bowman and Handheld, were released for their EP Get Yourself a Friend, released on November 19, 2021.
The singles I Watched Them Go was released in later 2022, and after releasing another single, VR Sex, they would announce the release of their first studio album under the name Ultra Q, My Guardian Angel, set for release in 2023.
